Garfield Mark Logan is the son of Marie and Mark Logan, two American zoologogists. At a young age, Beast Boy was taken to Upper Lamumba, Africa, so his parents could conduct wildlife recearch. The small family lived happily for some time, until young Gar somehow contacted a rare illness. No human had ever survived the disease, but animals were immune to it. Desperate to save the life of his young son, Mark used an untested machine on little Gar in hope that it would somehow save him. The machine fused animal and human DNA, and saved Gar's life. As a side effect, Gar emerged with green hair, skin, eyes, and pointed fangs. Other than the fact that he was green from head to toe, Gar seemed completely normal. So it was a shock when he and Marie were taking a walk and cobra came into their path. In his desperation to save his mother, Gar transformed into a mongoose and fought the snake, saving he and Marie from a grim fate. It was then discovered that this transformation was only part of Gar's power. When his DNA had been fused with animal DNA, he had somehow attained the power to transform into an animal he wanted. These powers were, as he discovered the day he fought the cobra, a defense mechanism controlled by his emotions. Not long later, Gar's parents perished in a tragic boating accident that Gar feels even to this day he could have prevented and bears a deeply conceal guilt. Left alone in the world, Gar went through a series of foster parents, none of whom kept him for long, and eventually found his way into the hands of the ledgendary superhero team The Doom Patrol, and became the green wonder known only as Beast Boy. Rita, better known as Elastigirl, and Steve, AKA Mento, adopted Gar into the Doom Patrol family. Beast Boy fought with the team for several years and saw Rita and Steve as his parents. But Beast Boy ended up leaving the team after a dispute with Mento and trouble found him in the form of a crooked ringmaster who hypnotized Beast Boy and forced him to steal from guests at his circus. Soon afterward, a team of young superheroes, the Teen Titans, fought Beast Boy and defeated him. Finding that he was under a trance when he committed the crimes, they did not arrest him. Beast Boy stayed with the Titans for some time and eventually receieved an invitation from Raven to formally join the team, which he accepted enthusiastically, and became the youngest member of the Teen Titans at the age of 14. Beast Boy is the joker of the team, always trying to make his friends laugh. He is the one Titan who completely and totally loves his powers and enjoys having fun with them, using some of the cuter animals to get his way. Beast Boy still bears deep pain about his past, which he hides behind a face of smiles and jokes. He is extremely insecure and, like Raven, is forced to hide his true self, though his reason is fear of rejection by his friends. Despite his insecurities, he knows his friends have his back, and puts complete trust in them. Beast Boy wants to be 'the ladies man', and it seems to constantly irk him that he's not exactly popular with the ladies, but no matter what he still has his friends. ^_^ He can be irritating at times, but the other Titans still love him and put up with his flaws. Beast Boy is a hyper, upbeat teenager who is tons of fun.
