Martin's Biography

I started playing both the Violin and piano at the age of 7, and picked up a guitar a few years later so I could rock out a little more. I stared listening to metal in the early eighties finding much joy in early thrash and the fledgling punk and grindcore outings of bands such as The Accused, Napalm Death, Repulsion, Unseen Terror,and countless bay-area thrash acts. All the while I was playing in a local youth orchestra rocking out to the likes of Prokofiev, Schostakovitch, Stravinsky and Bruch.

The first band I played with in an entirely (un)professional level was My Dying Bride. I joined up when I was 18 whilst at university. I played and wrote on all the albums for 7 years until “like gods of the sun”. I left after that album, as my drinking capacity outgrew the amount of money I was earning, so I had to go out on the streets pimping and selling crack for beer money. Whilst roaming the streets I somehow found myself playing live keyboards for a bunch of thieving ginger scousers called “Anathema”. This lasted for a couple of years until I received an invitation to bum children in Cradle of Filth (which I accepted with much enthusiasm!!!).

Well at least being in this band keeps me off the streets, my wife pissed….er, and in the pub.

Instrument

I use soundforge, Logic audio platinum v4.6.2 with onboard exs24 sampler. Kurzweil K2000, EMU proteus 2000, Roland Xp80, Line6 Pod pro and cheap vodka.

Favourite drink:

Drinks are a tricky subject. I drink anything and everything in large quantities although particular favourites are Jagermeister mixed with fresh orange juice, vodka/tequila/aftershock with red bull.

Favourite food:

I will and often do eat anything apart from fish and sea food. Never trust anything that breathes liquid!

My films:

I’m a great film lover. Favourite directors would have to be Akira Kurasawa, Ridley Scott, Terry Gilliam, Paul Verhoeven, Kevin Smith, John Carpenter and many more. George Lucas did some great things as both a director and producer in the eighties but has lost the fucking plot these days, the fat cunt.

My favourite of everything:

Without a doubt the most favourite thing in the world is spending time with my wife-even though she is a pisshead-spaz.

Dislikes:

All sport sucks shit apart from formula one racing-the sport of kings!

What I dislike most in this world is without a doubt, people. This shithole would be much more tolerable if everyone was dead.

ETC.:

When not concentrating on Cradle I love to walk. Sounds strange but whether it’s in the glorious English countryside or some arsehole town in germany(aren’t they all?) I love to explore. I usually spend a disproportionate amount of time in taverns and alehouses sampling their wares. This almost always gets both my wife and I into trouble. I love swearing and making up fantastic new ways to piss people off. Cunt.
