While Devimon is not my favorite Fallen Angel, he is still high on the list. The concept of him once being an Angel but then falling into darkness makes his character very appealing. If nothing else he holds a sort of sentimental value to Digimon since he was the first true villain introduced in the show. His physical design is ideal for a personification of a demon or the devil, and I love the scene in the hotel where he comes out of the painting of an angel. To me Devimon becomes the image of the powers of darkness. Not only does he represent the beginning of evil, but he is also revealed as the manifestation of evil in season two. His rookie form of DemiDevimon is perfect, and of course he has the potential of DigiVolveing into SkullSatamon or Ladydevimon, which is always a plus. Devimon may have only been a champion but he still kicked ass. Once ranking amongst the virtuous celestial digimon, Devimon was consumed by the powers of darkness and cast out of his place in the heavens, and thus joined the ranks of the demonic underworld. While this is the confirmed beginning of this Fallen Angel, events surrounding Devimon's falling have never been revealed. Question such as how the darkness began to consume him and why it targeted him, still cloak this dark being in a halo of mystery. One thing is for certain, Devimon does not regret loosing his rank as an Angel. From the earliest episodes of Digimon Adventure we get to see this demon weave diabolical webs of deceit and destruction. Early on we see that Devimon's personality differs greatly from the common Fallen Angel. While most Fallen Angels and Demons are generally underlings, serving a master of higher rank, this champion demon not only works alone but also commands others. He discovered and mastered the power of the Black Gears, the wheels that turn the Digital Demon Underworld. He was able to use these gears to control other digimon and turn vaccine and data type digimon against their nature. He was even able to tame the great Leomon and command his services. Besides being a powerful evil lord, Devimon was also a great illusionist and fighter. He was able to create and entire hotel with some sort of spell, and his large claws make him a deadly foe, especially in hand to hand combat. One observation I've made of Devimon was that out of all the evil Digimon, he was the only one to learn and call the Digidestined by their names. I'm not certain if this has any meaning, but it could show that he actually had some respect for the Digidestined. Like all the other Fallen Angels, Devimon seems to target his angelic counterparts. Angemon was his greatest rival, whether his rivalry with Angemon can be traced back to his former rank as an Angel is never revealed. Despite his dislike of Angemon, Devimon seems to have a great deal of respect for him. Out of all of the villains in Digimon, Devimon seemed to have the greatest understanding of both the Light and the Powers of Darkness. Even in the moment of his Death he prophecies that Evil is everywhere and can never truly be destroyed, a prophecy which seems to come to pass as in Zero Two the Digidestined explain that wherever you find Light there also will Darkness be. I view Devimon as a physical manifestation of the Powers of Darkness. In Digimon Adventure he commanded the Black Gears, and in Zero Two he appeared to be the source behind the Darkness that the Digimon Emperor controlled. Whether he is the manifestation of Darkness is never revealed, but one thing is for certain, he is one of the Darkness' most beloved sons. | |
