Digimon Movie 5

Digimon movie #5/Tamers movie #1:

We begin with Omegamon surveying a space inside the internet (presumably a net-like world) where he calls out to our antagonist to show himself. The villain he is seeking takes the time to inquire why Omegamon is chasing after him, we hear his voice which is followed to the eternally cringing profile of Apocalymon, but then this visage melts away and Mephismon appears in his place, symbolizing the data from which he was born from. Omegamon states that Mephismon threatens the lives of everyone on earth, and indeed he does, and comments that his type of data should be eliminated. While Mephismon understands Omegamon's wish to exterminate him, he doesn't seem to want or need to ponder why. Mephismon ends the conversation with a sudden attack which catches Omegamon unaware and off-guard. Though Mephis is weaker, even as a demonic fallen angel type of digimon, he is unable to significantly damage Omegamon and his following attacks are avoided and countered. Finally the two lock horns (no pun intended) with Mephismon using his Death Cloud technique and Omegamon firing his Garuru Cannon. Mephismon loses this bout of physical strength and is thrown into a portal which transports him out of the vicinity, thus escaping--much to Omegamon's chagrin.

The scene ends and we are taken to the tamers side where Takato is preparing for a vacation at Okinawa, at a relative of his. On the way we meet a curious man who is the president of the company producing an electronic pet program, the V-pet. Takato and his relative Kei, stumble into the man after Kei rankles a few security guards and the strange president (who Kei offended initially by calling him an old man) steps in and poses with the two boys in front of flashing news cameras.

Later in the story we learn that a friend of Kei, Minami lost a very cherished pet in the stormy seas around Okinawa, and her father, feeling sorry for her, created Mei-chu, a pet program that was later made into the V-pet phenomenon. While the image of Mei-chu and the V-pet are identical, Minami's version is unique and she seems to carry it like a sort of teddy bear, even sleeping next to the laptop that contains it. Soon after this Minami is almost kidnapped by a Divermon when her laptop carrying the original Mei-chu gives birth to Shiisamon, a dog-like digimon symbolyizing the native protecting spirit of the okinawa temple. Shiisamon wrestles the Divermon to the ground and incinerates him with white hot energy from his paws. This whole thing is quite a shock to Minami, as we might ration, though soon a Mantaraymon appears and trumps both Guilmon and Shiisamon, taking Minami away. Jenrya, (Henry) who is vacationing nearby is drawn into a fight with Ebidramon whom Terriermon has to evolve to combat, as he is monstrous in size.

Omegamon, working from behind the scenes in the net world, brings Ruki and Renamon, and Jenrya and Galgomon together with Takato in order to stop Mephismon, though he can't leave the net world to do battle with the evil goat himself. Minami is held hostage inside the V-pet companies research facility as the Baromon who leads the group of offending digimon that have been trying to kidnap and assault Takato and Guilmon explains that the president either gives them what they want, or the girl goes squish. This point is colorfully illustrated as a metal orb swivels out of the wall and fires a cutting laser from the lens in its center which travels up between the girls legs before she finally hops out of its path. Quite a close shave on that one.

Growlmon appears and beats the Baromon and his digimon helpers down, (a Ponchomon, Pipismon and another digimon I cannot identify, i'm thinking Zanbamon, given his appearence, but hes a mega, so it doesn't readily make sense to me) and Minami is saved. However, soon after the president of V-pet industry appears and comments on what Minami's father tells them, about a vaccine program to counteract the event of the V-pet becoming infected with a virus. The president reveals himself as Mephismon, who had taken the shape of the human president and promply stomps Shiisamon down. Growlmon is unable to help as Mephismon grabs the devolving Shiisamon and stands in triumph in front of his human nemesis'. When Ruki and Jenrya and their digimon show up, Mephismon puts on a offensive, and coupled with the havoc the infected V-pets and digimon that are able to escape into the real world to cause harm, everyone sinks into a psuedo-reality that Mephismon has brought to life. He calls it a world of his creation hovers proudly before the human children as remnants of the human world float around them. Cruise ships, airplanes, buildings--all trapped in Mephismon's lifeless dimension.

The three tamers attempt to combat Mephismon, but they are unable to damage him even with their best attacks. Finally Labramon, who devolved from Shiisamon, awakens to talk to Minami, who wished him to appear. Labramon was in fact Minami's lost pet, Mei, whose V-pet program was imbedded with an antivirus protocol for the V-pet system. Apon addressing Labramon as Mei, she triggers the command for him to release the program and this causes Labramon to die, who thanks Minami for calling him back.

The destruction of Mephismon's virus inside the V-pets around the globe disrupts his nightmare world and a cruise ship drops ontop of him, exploding and crushing him into the ground. As Minami--who has lost the dearest thing to her twice--wails in agony, the dust settles, though the existence of the lifeless dimension persists. From ground zero, Mephismon re-emerges as his mega/ultimate form of Galfmon, a large furred centaur like creature which sports three fingered razor hands and giant black wings. The three digimon of the tamers evolve to their ultimate/perfect forms and combine to form a giant golden bird which cuts through Galfmon's middle and kills him, thus ending the nightmare world and leaves the tamers to enjoy whats left of their vacation, and to comfort Minami.

So things turned out okay for the tamers. Wish we could say the same for Mephis over there, but he seems to have inherited the vamdemon-like ability to keep coming back, since he was originally part of Apocalymon, of his substance. The movie goes to show us you can't keep a good dog down, and a goat, for that matter.
