Many of the myths of vampires are false, like so many myths. Here's a list to distinguish the difference between what's fact and what's fiction.
False Myths
- Vampires can walk in the day light. -Most vampire are able to walk in the day light, however, some vampires have chosen to hide in caverns and other dark places for such long amounts of time that their skin is no longer used to having a defense against the UV Rays.
- Vampires have reflections. -The body does not become a spirit, it still is a matter and has density, thus, the reflection will appear.
- Wooden stakes do not kill a vampire. -how the stake first came about was when the townspeople would find a vampire sleeping inside of a coffin they'd nail them to the ground with a large stake preventing the vampire from rising.
- Holy water, garlic, silver, and crosses do not repel vampires, vampires do not have to be invited to enter a home. -Scientifically, vampires are not evil; Vampires are predators.
- Vampires do not HAVE to sleep inside of coffins. -However, many vampires prefer coffins. When a vampire sleeps, they are mostly vulnerable. Caskets have lids; this helps protect a vampire from light.
- Vampires are immortal. -This myth is only somewhat true. Vampires are able to die, but for some it is not easy. Vampires do not become ill. The virus' and bacteria only contaminate living things and vampires do not decay if they feed continually. However, some vampires have developed an "immune system" so strong that they are able to live a very long life-span.
Facts that I have gathered so far.
- Some vampires can be destroyed by light. -There are many vampires who live inside of caverns and deep caves for such long amounts of time that their skin has adjusted to the darkness (as well as their eyesight); Because of this their skin becomes defenseless towards sunlight and UV rays, causing sun poisoning and other harmful things. There have been some cases that when exposed to light, the damage is so extreme that the skin rapidly decays causing it to fall off and singe.
- Blood is essential. -Certain vampires cannot eat food. What I've observed so far, the blood inside of a "non-living" vampire is temporary living blood. In humans, red blood cells die and are replaced by bone marrow. Vampiric bones are so thick and strong for their defense but because of this thickness their bone marrow is weak causing the need for blood. Their bone marrow develops at such a slow rate that it can barely produce enough new blood cells for the body to prevent decay. These vampires must drink living blood in order to survive or else decay will set in.
- Fire can destroy vampires. -Fires consume nearly anything. Vampires are still made of blood and skin, like humans, and have no defense from flames.
- Most vampires have superior strength and speed. -Most vampiric muscles contract faster than human muscles. However, there are quite a number of species who are as powerful, if not less, than humans (a lot of these species are in the Philippines and other pacific island areas).
- Most vampires are sexual predators. -Even though vampires do not have a libido, they are able to enhance a man's testosterone or a woman's estrogen. We can sense, even if we are not aware, when the opposite sex is aroused (or in some cases, same sex).
"Living" Born Vampires/Vampyres
- There are many species who are living-born vampires. However, most of these species have gone extinct or the blood line is so inter mixed with human blood that the chance to have a vampiric gene be dominant in a pregnancy is a very slim chance. In these particular cases, if the gene happens to be dominant the body will not accept it and therefor the embryo will become distorted causing deformation, still birth, or other dangerous complications with the unborn child.
- Not all species of living-born vampires are extinct, however. There are a small amount of species who still breed with with their own kind or have been able to keep the vampiric gene dominant within their community. There are countries who support vampire species (an example: India) and help these creatures stay alive.
- Here are some facts about Living-Born Vampires/Vampyres:
- Vampires are able to eat and drink. -Living-born vampires are able to eat regular amounts of food. They are also able to resist the urge for blood at an early age since their body does not need it. However, on cases like these, if the vampire/vampyre does not consume blood on a regular basis throughout it's lifetime, then when the vampire has reached the age where the body starts to deteriorate (30's/40's or when the balding process begins) the urge becomes great.
- Not all Living-Born Vampires/Vampyres are great in strength:
- There are quite a few species of vampires that are weaker or as strong as the average human. There are a few of these species in the Philippines where the female vampire species are greater than the male species. These female vampires will find a human mate and feed off of him until he dies. Usually these vampires kill off their mate when the decaying process begins and then find a new mate.
