Thinking Day 2001

In February, my service unit held a special event for Thinking Day. It consisted of several troops from our service unit who represented different countries. They were assigned the task of learning as much as they could about the country they represented and organizing the information in an orderly and understandable manner. At the event itself, each country had it's own table, with food/drink, music, information about the country, SWAPs, and rubber stamps w/ ink.

Each table had a piece of paper taped to the top with a question printed on it. (The answer was upside down.) Each girl got a passport with those questions in it, and when they got the question right, the table bearing the question would stamp their passport, or at the very least initial it.

At the beginning of the ceremony, a parade of flags was held. Each troop had to make a flag at least the size of a piece of postboard, copying their country's flag.

My troopmates were named Gabrielle, Sarah, and Staci. Staci and her mother (the troop leader) were unable to participate due to schedule demands, so I asked Gabrielle and Sarah for their help. I gathered the information, Gabrielle made the SWAPs, and Sarah made the flag. Neither of them showed up for the actual event, however. I was left alone at the table, with no troopmates and no leader. We also ran out of SWAPs fairly quickly.

Other than those small problems, the project went well. I hope to do it again next year. For more information on the country I represented, etc., see World Thinking Day 2001
