MTV Beach House Pictures

Back on June 1, 2000 Sara, Scott (Sara's bro), Andrea and myself all went to the MTV Beach House when it came to San Diego. You'd be surprised at what really goes on behind the scenes there. I'll explain how our day went though pictures and about TRL. And yes - I did get on TRL with several close up shots. That amazed me and was proof that you don't have to be half naked to be on MTV. **************************************

This Andrea and me on the way to the beach. Once we got there MTV had a station where you had to check in. Sara had called this number and gave them her name and they told her to bring friends. Sara said her name and she got a wristband. Scott, Andrea and myself went to one too but they stopped us and said if our name isn't on list we can't get in the first show. What the fuck? This sucked because Sara all ready got her band and couldn't go on two shows in the same day (part of MTV's rules). I was pissed. This meant we would have to wait for the second taping of TRL (it's not always a live show). We waited with Sara and she had ot go the show by herself. The TRL staff rounded up the extras including Scott, Andrea and me and put us on the beach on front of the beach house where they would sometimes pan the camera on.

Thats Scott and Andrea in that pic. You can see the beach house. That big guy in the white jacket was one of the security guys and if you stopped to look he would yell at you unless you were on the sand.
So finally they started taping the show and the camera on the sand would would pan in on us "sand people" and we would yell and act all happy.The camera was on this platform thingy and they would tell us when they were about to put the camera on the "sand people". KK (a vj) was the sand host.

I took this from the sand while Sara was on TRL. In the red shirt is Dave Holmes and Carson Daliy is in the white shirt.

This is Sara in the beach house. She is in the floral dress and white sweater. If you look up to the right Dave and Carson are still up there.

Here is Andrea and me on the sand. KK is looking at us - you can see him right between our shoulders.

Sara is the one in the white sweater above the stairs. This is the TRL set from the front. When you get on the show they herd you up the stairs and tell you to sit where ever you want. The chairs all get taken first so like Sara when I was on the show I had to sit on the pool deck.

Andrea and I got on TRL about three hours after Sara did. Thats us in the middle. That guy in the white shirt and black pants on the boardwalk is another security guy.

While we were in the beach house Sara was on the sand. Brekin Myer was on the taping of TRL I was on so Sara got her pic taken with him and the vj. I think the vj's name was Ray-Ray. How the hell did he get MTV to hire him?

As far as TRL goes they make you smile and act all happy. They tell you before the show that if your not clapping and smiling they will boot you from the set. The people that 'requested' the videos when I was there were the producers. This one was a real bitch and yelled everyone. She has this certain east coast tone and you could tell it was her on the 'request line'. For the people in the audience that request songs - they are told what to say. They pick you from the crowd and give you a card to read. Its a couple of lines and then you say it back when the put the camera on you. Carson seemed nice. He roamed around and did his job. One of the cameras was behind me so when the show would go to a commercial he would zoom in on me and Andrea clapping or pan by us. It was kinda neat. You get all excited when the camera is on you.
