Windmill on the South Lawn, January 2002 The South Lawn is bordered on the west by a row of fruit trees in front of our neighbor's fence. Along the fence line are Veilchenblau and Zephrine Drouhin planted among self sowing wildflowers. On the east are crepe myrtles, then the driveway. To the north is the rose garden and on the south is a hedge of shrubs and trees, between the lawn and the road.

There is a bed of grasses, coneflowers, pink abellia, and the rugosa rose Buffalo Gal along the driveway.

One of my projects for this area is to increase the number of crepe myrtles along the driveway to create the effect of a small wood, underplanted with daffodils and hosta. Also, I would like to create an allee going down the center of the lawn from the rose garden to a small seating area with a fountain in front of the hedge by the road.
