Insider/Outsider
by Fannie Feazell

You're the one who's living
in a state of grace.
Perfect body, perfect hair,
perfect clothes, pretty face.
Prince or princess of the ones
who never have to think or strive.
Future stretches out so bright,
why is it you don't feel alive?

I'm the outsider,
the one who don't fit in.
You're eyes once swept me over,
what made you look again?
I think you recognized
the hunger deep inside.
Now which is gonna win,
your desire or your pride?

This ain't gonna be forever,
whatever this turns out to be.
Love costs dear, too much to pay,
but pain is always free.

So we dance around each other,
looks and words that lead to touch.
What we share is not enough,
What we want is way too much.
I thought I had my eyes wide open,
I thought that I knew the score.
Take your passion, leave your heart.
Now I find I'm wanting more.

Even when I try to push you,
try to make you break my heart,
You hold on and ride the storm out,
stronger now than at the start.
How can you be so heartless?
How can you be so mean?
Don't you know how much it hurts
when I can't give up the dream?

Close my eyes and straight ahead now.
All to gain, nothing to lose.
Maybe this could last forever.
If we don't let others choose.
