So.

This site has been dying a death for a while, now.

At the beginning--at the very, very, beginningest beginning--this URL was part of a care package for JJ, the first year I was in grad school in Wisconsin and he was still in upstate New York, finishing undergrad. And then he saw it, and was amused, and I decided to do something with it rather than just delete it. And I did.

For--what, just shy of 7 years? this was my online home. In some ways this was more my home than some of the places I lived in physically. While I was in grad school, posting here was a pleasure, a necessity, as much a part of my life as making dinner, or kissing J goodbye in the morning.

The blog got less compelling to me pretty much the day I moved back to the northeast. Now my home isn't online, it's here, in this place I'm sitting in. And as a result, I feel less of a need to talk on the blog. My innermost thoughts have suddenly become less interesting, but also more private, and I don't feel the same compulsion to even turn them into words, or do anything much with them but think, and feel. I could turn this place into something different--a science-teaching site, or a pure crafting blog, or something. But it feels right that I should move out of it, the way I move out of apartments that stop feeling like home.

So I'm pulling the plug on johnnysstew.com, because the domain costs money that I'd rather spend on a monthly pizza. Or ball of fiber.

All of the text will still be available under the old URL which has been sitting under johnnystew.com for the whole time: https://www.angelfire.com/grrl/tchemgrrl/nano/nanopants.html. J's text will still be here. The knitting patterns will still be here. Some of the pictures are going to break--some of them are already broken, mostly the most recent ones. There will be a bit of clean-up happening in the background so that the site is still navigable when the johnnysstew domain goes away. But I've been doing that in bits and pieces in the last two months, anyhow.

Other places to find me: anywhere there's a tchemgrrl, that's me, I'm pretty sure. That's my name on Ravelry, and Livejournal, and my Hotmail email, and it's also the name under which (lord help me) a new craft blog seems to have sprouted up. The feel of that place, two entries into it, is quite different, and I expect that my authorial voice which change dramatically. But it feels nice, like a new house that I get to arrange any way I like.

I'll see you elsenet, eh?
