Aqurio Mundo Marino has displayed Orcas since 1985, when it received an young male named Milagro. In all, they have received 5 whales from the wild (Milagro, Belen, Unnamed female, Kshamenk, & Father of Kshamenk). All of these animals came from strandings, some of which were thought to be forced. They've also had a total of 2 pregnancies, one a stillbirth in 1998, and the other, 4 months along when the animal died. Both of these pregnancies were Belen's, and both calves were fathered by Kshamenk. Since early 2000, Kshamenk has been held alone.
Mundo Marino's facility is terrible. The tank, which originally contained 1.5 milo liters of water, was then upgraded to 4.5 milo liters. Unfortunately, Mundo did not upgrade the filtering and cooling systems, and because of this the water is in general poor quality, and much to warm. The fish they feed the animals is also poor quality, much less so than most Marine Parks.
Mundo Marino will end the display of Orcas early in 2002. They have come to an agreement with Six Flags Worlds of Adventure, in Aurora, Ohio, to send their surviving whale, Kshamenk, to their park. He will go on a breeding loan, however, as that wording is only used to speed up import permits, Kshamenk will be staying in Ohio.
And, despite regulations against capturing whales in Argentina, there have been rumors that Mundo Marino may still attempt to capture, and have already done so (attempted).
