Thor
Thor is a 20 year old Icelandic male. He was captured in 1984, along with 2 other Orcas on the East Coast of Iceland. At the time of capture, Thor was about 2 years old. The other 2 whales, Freyja and an unnamed male, were both older, around 4 years old. After capture, the whales spent a few months in a tiny Icelandic Aquarium, before shipping. Sadly, the unnamed male died a few months later. Thor and Freyja, the survivors, were sent to Kamogawa Sea World, in Japan.

A few years after they arrived, Freyja died, leaving Thor alone in Kamogawa's tiny pool. Months later, 4 young whales (Maggie, Stella, Oscar, and Prince) arrived. The 5 whales spent several years crammed into the very small pool, before 2 things happened. The first was that Prince, one of the two new young males, was sold to an Aquarium in Hong Kong. The second, and happier event, was that Kamogawa moved its whales into a larger, new tank.

In 1995, Maggie, a young adult female, gave birth to Thor's first calf. The male calf died soon after birth. In 1998, Stella, an adult female, gave birth to a female calf later named Lovey. That calf survived, and remains in Kamogawa today. She and Thor often perform together. In 2001, Stella gave birth again, and Lara, Thor's second daughter was born. This time, Thor assisted with the delivery, as Kamogawa didn't have another adult female to act as Auntie.

Today, Thor is one of Kamogawa's primary performers. He is fully trained, and can do some of the more difficult behaviors. He interacts with his children regularly, and is a very gentle whale. Sadly, Thor will soon be leaving Kamogawa. He has been sold to the Miami Seaqarium, and will leave sometime in 2003 when their new tank is built. There Thor will join adult female Tokitae, who's been alone since 1980. Thor is a large whale, though the last size I have on him was from 1997 (20 feet long, 8,000 pounds) recent photos show that he has grown quiet a bit!
