The next day was a well-needed day off for the Backstreet Boys, but that didn't mean they weren't going to see each other. They were all going out to dinner that night along with A.J.'s mom Denise, Kevin's wife Kristin, and A.J.'s new girlfriend Sarah.
Nick reclined in a green velvet sofa after starting a hot bath in his grand suite. He stretched out and kicked his Nike shoes and socks off. His feet were killing him, and he couldn't get Sapphire out of his mind. He had lost a good friend and partner. Could he ever find someone to replace her? He himself couldn't be an obvious vigilante- not with his publicity. Was it wrong for him to even get involved in a fight against an underground crime gang? He wasn't sure, and he was afraid to truly answer himself. Should he do what Sapphire had done, hang up his hat and live safely, or keep fighting this fight? He squeezed his eyes shut and wished to God that everything had turned out OK; that she was still alive. He sat up on the sofa and sighed. He just wanted to hide away in this room, didn't want to see or hear from anyone. He had so many things to think about he didn't want to start.
The Boys all met inside a special section of a near by Hard Rock Café. They sat at a long red and gray table and were served by a young and pretty waitress, who was more excited about what her tip was going to be rather than the fact that she was serving super stars. Nick took a seat, and he ended up sitting next to Howie and another girl who sat next to A.j.
Nick was taken back when he saw the girl. "Are you…Sarah?" he asked the girl.
She smiled shyly. "Yes."
So that was the girl. Sarah had only been described to him before. Nick couldn't help to notice the fact that she looked just like A.J.'s last girlfriend, Amanda. "Nice to finally meet you," he said.
"Isn't she beautiful?" A.j. asked, an arm slung around Sarah, and she blushed a light pink.
Nick didn't say anything and began reading the menu.
When the menus were stacked in the middle of the table, the waitress came into the large room again, carrying a platter filled with drinks. Everyone started giving their orders, beginning with Denise, who was having some fancy burger, and then with Kevin, then Kristin, and so on.
It was Sarah's turn. "I want the biggest salad you have, with no dressing, and can I have another glass of ice water?" She held up her glass and the waitress took it.
"Might want to watch your calorie intake," Nick said softly.
"I gotta keep in shape," she said.
Nick gave his order and then gave his attention back the Sarah. "Keep in shape for what?"
"Haven't I told you, Nick? My girl can do anything with her body." A.j. bragged, expecting no one to catch on to his double meaning.
Sarah gave him an evil look. "He means I like doing physical stuff."
"Really?" Nick grew curious and he noticed other people at the table were all listening to them. "Like what?"
"Oh, all sorts of things. Dancing, track, gymnastics, karate."
Nick drew in closer. "Really?"
She arched her eyebrow and laughed a little. "Yeah, really."
"How good are you at karate?" Brian asked.
"Oh I don't know…" Sarah began.
"Please," A.j. interrupted. "Sarah could kick all our butts -blindfolded."
"…Self defense has always been important in my family. My dad used to be a police officer," Sarah said, seeming to make sure she used the right words.
"Hey, so was my dad," Howie said. "I thought of being one before joining the group."
"Wow, that's awesome," Sarah replied. "Maybe I'll get into that someday, fighting crime and all that. Sounds so…"
"Dangerous?" Nick asked.
She didn't seem to answer.
"That's so brave of you," Denise complimented Sarah. "I've always admired our fire fighters and police. So brave, so willing to give their lives for others. They're real heroes." They all seemed to nod their heads in unison.
"Yes," Nick agreed softly. He glanced over at Sarah, and he began thinking.
