Steel Roses

Chapter 3: Unforgiven

Roger strode to Dorothy, her eyes searching his. He enveloped her into his arms. She laid her head against his strong chest and sighed. "Roger, what DID she mean to you?" she questioned. He shrugged.

"She was nothing to me. She was another escape from pain. An easy fuck," he spoke softly. She gazed at the floor, upset by his admission.

"Then is that what I am to you as well?" she whispered, tears in her eyes. He lifted her chin, allowing her to look into his eyes.

"No, you are so much more than that. I love you Dorothy. I never loved anyone before. You and I are going to be together forever. I don't want anyone else," he whispered back before kissing her passionately. He led her back to his bedroom and so he showed her again and again how much she really meant to him.

Roger searched for something casual to wear. He stumbled upon a pair of loose black khakis and a fitted black sweater. Dorothy walked out of the bathroom wearing a long black skirt with slits in the sides up to her thighs, black knee-high boots, and a black silk long-sleeved turtleneck (as far as I am concerned, I gave her my closet. That dress was just NOT working it!). Roger folded her into his arms, kissing her softly. She playfully slapped him away and spoke, "You promised to take me out, Roger." He sighed.

"Yes, I did, didn't I?" he replied, defeated. She nodded and walked to the car. He placed the keys in the ignition and started the Griffon. They pulled out of the drive and headed for the city. He never did like the city, but for her he would endure the fires of an apocalypse. They ended up at The Square, a small shopping area. It was really a two mile street with stores on each side. She hopped out and took his hand in her own after he'd locked the car up. They pair headed for a woman's retail store to buy her a few new outfits.

She searched through racks and racks of clothing while Roger sat and waited patiently. "Roger, I have no idea why, but I enjoy shopping immensely now," she stated. He just smiled. She pulled a black shirt from the rack. It was a fitted 3/4 length sleeved shirt with a collar and plummeting 'V' neck. She also pulled a knee-length black skirt from the second rack.

Dorothy deposited the items to Roger and proceeded to the shoe rack. Looking through all of the shoes, she decided on a pair of (yup, you guessed it!) black strappy high heals. She retrieved her items from Roger and the two made their way to purchase Dorothy's new clothes. Dorothy grabbed her bags and placed them in the car before proceeding to the next shop.

Roger gazed at her lovingly. "Why is it that I fell for an android?" he whispered to her. Surprisingly she didn't mind the title of android anymore, as long as it came from him that is. She just turned and marched to the next store. He laughed at the purpose in her stride. As he began to walk a hand descended upon his own. He turned to see Angel standing there. "What do you want now?" She smiled at him.

"Nothing other than to invite you and Miss Dorothy to a ball tomorrow night. Please consider it," she concluded before brushing her hand down his chest. He swatted her away and frowned. Dorothy approached from behind and kissed his back.

"What's wrong, Roger?" she questioned, worry in her voice. He just shook his head.

"Nothing, my dear, nothing," he responded before entering the shop with her. "However, you do have to buy a formal evening gown. We've been invited to a ball." She smiled looking through more clothing. She gathered shirts, skirts, and shoes into her arms before retreating to the dressing room. She emerged wearing black platform heals, a short black/grey/and white plaid skirt, and a black sleeveless shirt. Once again, Roger could not quite form words. She bought that one.

Roger led her to a special boutique along the square. Inside there were three women to every customer. Dorothy smiled, "Why are we here?" she questioned. He pointed to the ball gowns. Her face lit up. She strode to one in particular. It was a black satin dress. The dress brushed the ground. It had thin spaghetti straps and long slits in the sides. The bodice was fitted to her and the skirt flares out a little before dropping to the ground. Three women approached her and she was fitted for the dress. Roger sat back and watched the looks of pleasure on her delicate features.

She emerged from the back to see if Roger approved of the dress. He stood as she entered the room. "Breathtaking," he whispered, eliciting a blush from her cheeks. He enveloped her in his arms, kissing her softly. "You look amazing," he complemented her. She walked from his arms and spun before him, the skirt flaring. She was absolutely breathtaking. She emerged moments later, paying for her dress.

Dorothy sat before the mirror in her room. She had previously placed her hair into a mass of long spiral curls letting all hang loose. She had applied minimal make-up using only a small amount of blush, charcoal colored eyeshadow, and a red/burgundy lipstick. She smiled at herself before slipping on her dress. She strapped on her heals and exited her room to meet her lover on the foyer.

She walked down the staircase slowly. She had Roger's attention. His eyes locked with her own and he strode to her. He whispered sweet words in her ear telling her how beautiful she was. Norman swept her up in a tight hug. She giggled at him before whispering her thanks. As the pair left, Norman smiled to himself. "Finally, he listens to me," he mused before making himself dinner.

Roger opened the door for Dorothy and she, in turn, placed her arm into his and entered the mansion in which the ball was held. The doors opened and inside was a world which one knew and the other was just folded into. Roger glanced around the room to see who was attending. He noticed the appreciative looks men were giving Dorothy. HIS Dorothy. He scowled at them, telling them with his eyes that she was off limits.

Dorothy noticed the looks of hatred on the faces of so many women in the room, directed toward her. She sighed, knowing they all wanted Roger Smith, most eligible bachelor in their minds, for themselves. Well he was not a bachelor any longer. She simply clutched his arm a little tighter, gaining his attention. She pulled his face down a little to place a soft, small kiss on his lips. He smiled as they parted and introduced her to many of his old clients with whom he'd grown close to. She would smile and bow at each man and smile and greet each woman with grace she was never known to possess. Roger smiled to himself and stood beside her through all of the introductions.

Mr. Rosewater entered with Angel hung on his arm. He wore a black tux, much like Roger's yet different. Where Roger wore a tux with a long coat, which brushed his knees, and a steel grey vest, Mr. Rosewater wore a shorter coat and a rose colored vest. Angel wore a dress of subdued lime green. There was a rather large, layered skirt and a too tight bodice. All in all it made her look horrible.

Roger took Dorothy's arm and led her to the dance floor. He smiled down upon her as a sensuous tango was begun. Many on the floor cleared for a tango was a dangerous dance of passion and heat. Roger led her to the center and the pair resumed their positions. He looked into her eyes and kissed her for head softly before they began. One could feel the passion in the room at any given moment while the two were dancing. Their eyes never left the other. The dips were fluid and the turns were perfect. They were perfect. The song ended and so did their dance. There was an eruption of applause. Dorothy blushed a little and Roger just held her tighter. They bowed and left the dance floor. Angel approached Roger.

"Well, I must say that was rather good. But we could do better. What do you say?" she questioned her ex-lover. He frowned at her.

"Do you ever give up?" he responded, staining his voice with bitterness. She shook her head.

"Not when I want something. I ALWAYS get what I want," she whispered, inching closer to him. She leaned in for a small kiss and he turned his head. He smiled noticing Dorothy nearing. He pushed Angel away and strode to his love, leaving the fallen in a state of bewilderment. She smirked, evil thoughts entering her head. "I will have you, Roger. One way or another," she spoke.

*******

Roger and Dorothy danced and danced, laughing at little things between the two. He smiled down at her and she in turn would look to him for support. The fallen angel soon closed in upon the happy couple to exact her revenge against the android woman who stole the man she wanted. She pushed Dorothy out of the way and folded herself into Roger's arms, planting a huge kiss on his soft lips. "So, was last night good for you too?" she questioned him. He looked past her to Dorothy.

Her face had contorted into the saddened and angry look of a woman scorned. Dorothy then pulled roger away from Angel and slapped him. The connection echoing off the walls. Silence fell as she screamed, "How could you? I love you and this is how you return my love?! By being with this... this whore?! I am no longer your 'doll' Roger Smith, I can think for myself and I think I am leaving. Goodbye, Roger." She turned and ran out the door of the mansion.

"Dorothy," he called before running after her. His lover, his soul mate, his Dorothy.

She ran through the rain. She knew not where her feet took her, but she didn't really care. All she wanted was to be gone from this wretched city of lost memories. maybe lost memories were a good thing. There was no pain to remember and nothing to scorn. Just blissful ignorance. She ran to the only place she knew... home.

Norman came to the door to find Dorothy standing in the rain, crying. He took her into the house and held her for a moment to comfort her. She was like a daughter to him and he hated to see her in pain. "I say child, what is wrong?" he questioned her. She shook her head.

"Roger and Angel," were the only words she spoke before breaking into sobs again. He just smoothed her hair and walked her to her room. She entered the small room which she slept in and fell on the bad, crying uncontrollably. He spoke soothingly to her.

"Dear, what happened to make you this saddened?" She lifted her head, allowing the tears to sit on her pale cheeks like a string of diamonds. One fell and shattered upon the bed.

"She kissed him at the ball. He made no move to stop her and did not push her away. She also said, 'Was last night good for you too?' What do I do Norman? I am so confused and angry and, I don't know," she collapsed into sobs once more.

Norman heard the door crack open and turned to see Roger standing there. He left her to cry and pulled Roger by the sleeve out to the sitting room. "Master Roger, please excuse me but," he paused to slap him hard across the face. Roger looked shocked as his butler's hand connected with his face. "How could you do this to her? She loves you more than life itself and you do this. What is your excuse now?" he questioned.

Roger hung his head and whispered, "It was not my fault. Angel did it. We never did anything since that last time six months ago and she wants me back. Well she tried to come onto me earlier and I pushed her away. Then she came back and kissed me. I was too shocked to do anything else. That’s when she spoke that lie so Dorothy could hear it and she snapped, slapped me, and ran out. I did not do anything. Please believe me, I didn't do anything," he concluded allowing a small tear to slip out of his eye.

"I suggest, Master Roger, you go and tell her right now, because in her mind you are unforgiven," he suggested to the young man before him. Roger nodded and walked solemnly to her room to rectify the situation he found himself in.

Outside the window a shadow smirked at the situation. "You will see how forgiving she really is, Roger. You'll see," it whispered. The light hit the shadow allowing a blond lock to be seen beyond the hood.

A.N. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. it took me a little while to find a good idea, but I think it worked out well. As you can see, I do not post a disclaimer at the beginning of each chapter because I believe one is enough. I got an Email complying an I thought that I would clarify. Anyways, REVIEW!!!
