I'm sorry but Yamcha has to be my favourite anime character of all time, and I'll probably end up getting really carried away here, but please bear with me! thanky you ^_^
When we first meet Yamcha he seems like a terrible foe, and one which Son Goku surely can't beat, although dashingly handsome. But we soon find out his weakness (besides food), which turns out to be girls. Bulma being a pretty young women at the time, seems to trigger his fear off again. He decides to steal the dragonballs and wish for his disability to disappear. Although he doesn't get his wish, being around Bulma he learns to control and his fear and finally almost loses it
Most fans think that yamcha deserved to be turned against because of the sayain saga. This is when Bulma reveals that he took another girl to a concert with him. People use this against him. But!!!...Yamcha was broke that week! and also Bulma wouldn't go...the poor guy had tickets what was he supposed to do?
Yamcha always seems to miss his opportunities with everything. He never reaches his true fighting ability, or it seems is able to sweep Bulma off her feet. It's evident that Yamcha does love Bulma, there are many examples throughout. At the beginning of the sayain saga, when Bulma and he meet again they both look really pleased and excited to see each other until Bulma ruins it. Then when he is wished back he compliments on how lovely she looks
"hey wow, you're looking better than ever Bulma, I missed you a lot"
Then when Goku wishes(in the Trunk's saga)Bulma good luck with her baby, yamcha goes red and suggested marriage. Perhaps if he had been a little more liberal in his advances they might have gotten married. Also when Bulma reveals to him her dreams about Vegeta, Yamcha gets rather jealous. And finally when we first see baby Trunks, Yamcha looks thouroughly upset that Trunks isn't his baby. Which leads to the question...was there a possibilty? let's not get into that ><.
In short...yamcha just (like Darien) wants to be loved as he admits in the manga that he dreams of getting married some day. it's just a shame that we never see the girl that trunks foretold yamcha gets married to ::sighs:: I'll marry you Yammy!
Bulma has a shallow personailty, if you ask me and I'm sure there are a lot of fans who agree, but this is not by DBZ standards (hey you got Marron and Chi chi here) but by anime standards when you have couples like Darien and Serena. But I suppose the defense for Bulma's love towards Yamcha is that, when he died at the hands of Vegeta and Nappa, she did go to Namek to wish him back. And she did look really pleased to him when he came back. Oh and I almost forgot, when he died she was really torn up,
"I was gonna marry him someday!"
if only that had been true ::sighs:: There is no way that anyone can justify that Bulma is the victim here, okay she's juts following her heart, but it seems to me that she likes rubbing Yamcha's nose in it. Yamcha needs soemone less forceful and more gentle patient and loving, all things that Bulma never was and never has been. Through it all yamcha still loves her. Sure soem people say he is just clinging, but man! he was a pro-baseball player!!! and a gosh darn gorgeous one at that! He must have had a list of girls waiting to date him...the guy's not desperate, just in love
In short I'd say that Bulma and Vegeta deserve each other, they are both total control freaks. Lol, but i wouldn't wann get caught up in a fight at their house ::looks sacred::
