The Lone Warrior
By Melissa
Chapter 1
A girl stepped out of a building, paused for a second, looked around then continued. She was tall, probably around 15 but she didn’t look it. Her face and green/gray eyes showed that of hardened warrior. Her dark blond hair was pulled back into a low pony tail. And she wore a black woman’s pant suit, and was carrying a black briefcase.
She walked for awhile, stopped, then looked around for someone.
"He’s late," she muttered to herself. She glanced at a watch and sighed. She didn’t sit down but kept pacing.
"Meela," A tall young man around 16 with brown hair, said right beside her.
"Trowa, there you are. You’re late."
"Business." He replied.
"Anyway, here are the documents, tell the Colonel that they didn’t suspect a thing. Just walked right in, and ran out."
"Hmm. Ran out." He looked amused. "Your not coming back?"
"Not yet. I have some business to take care of. Where’s Heero?" she asked.
"He said he’d be in touch. No location."
"Dang it. He sure makes it a lot harder with out telling us at least why he’s here."
"Are you going to find that out? Why he’s here?"
"I suppose I should. He didn’t tell you anything else?"
"No. I only know that last night, there was an attempt on Miss Relena’s life. Luckily, she was able to hold them off until her guards regained consciousness." He smiled.
She snorted. "Hold them off. I can’t guess what she did." She shook her head. "But, Miss Relena’s on colony Akera. Why would he be here?"
_______
Two weeks earlier.
"I’m sorry ma’am, but I don’t understand," Meela said tiredly.
"Meela, all you have to do is to go down to Allna, and get the documents on the Une Foundation’s new fighter. They are at the Foundation’s military facility disguised as Rowlsons Law and Order Facility. They disguised it as a lawyer’s office to avoid public opinion of a military factory being on one of the colonies. The documents should be fairly easy to obtain since they are still scattered from the attack the guerillas did on the base." She handed Meela a pass. "This should be all that you need to get passed the guards. Get it?" Colonel Une said rubbing her temples.
"This says Kelsy Solholen. I‘m not Kelsy Soholen." Meela said looking at the pass.
"Oh yes. You’ll be going as Kelsy. She had a scheduled meeting on the colony, she called to cancel because her mother is sick, but we intercepted her call. As far as she knows, the meeting been canceled, but..."
"What meeting is it? And do I have to go to it?"
"Well, the meeting is with the Une Foundation. It appears that they are having trouble making the lawyer’s office seem real. They are working to get approval for a military factory on the colony so they can reveal theirs. Kelsy is against that. We hope to have you off the colony by the time of the meeting, but if we don’t then you’ll have to go." Colonel Une said.
"Won’t they be suspicious if I just disappear before the meeting?"
"Yes. But I guess you’ll just have to get sick. You’ll have body guards that the Preventers will provide so you won’t have to worry about anyone who knows Kelsy."
Meela looked at the picture on the pass that looked so much like her. To the Colonel she said," Yeah. I understand."
"You’ll be leaving in a couple of hours. When you get to Allna, Trowa will contact you, telling you when and where he will be to pick up the documents."
Meela nodded and the Colonel walked out of the room.
"Oh yeah. Meela." She turned and tossed her something. "Try to look, talk, and act like her." She said then left.
Meela looked at the thing that she had been tossed. It was like the business suits that Kelsy wore. "Of course."
Meela said, then went the opposite way the Colonel went.
__________
"You know she just wants this to go right. Nobody is blaming you for what happened." Noin said.
"Yeah. But I am blaming myself. I took this mission to get my mind off of that." She and Lucrezia Noin walked down a hallway to the hanger.
"The great and mighty Meela taking orders from a Colonel. I never thought I would see the day." Noin said shaking her head.
"Yeah, but I take orders from very few people. Remember that Miss Noin."
Noin snorted. " Yeah. Here you are. Good luck." she said with a casual wave.
Meela walked into the hanger and paused at the black human shaped form. A fifty-foot high weapon called a mobile suit. This one was a special variation called a Gundam.
She looked up at it, sighed, shook her head and moved on to the small shuttle that she was to pilot down to the colony.
__________
"Shuttle Tolina, this is Allna traffic control. You are cleared to dock in bay four," the voice on the speaker said.
"Roger. Preparing to dock," Meela said.
She piloted the shuttle along the blinking lights and into the large bay, then set the craft gently down.
"Docking successful. Welcome to Allna. We hope you enjoy your stay." Said the melodic voice.
Meela stepped out of the shuttle. She had changed her clothes to the woman’s business suit and put her hair into a low ponytail to look more business-like. A bunch of reporters crowded around her shoving a pushing each other.
"Miss Soholen! What are your prospects for the upcoming meeting?"
"Can you tell us if you will be open to deals? Will you let them persuade you?"
Meela groaned and shook her head. "I can’t say what their verdict will be. All I can say is that I am going to try to persuade them to reconsider." Her two guards started shoving the reporters out of the way as she maneuvered through them.
"Boy! It’s a mad house out here!" Said a familiar voice.
"Duo! What are you doing here?"
"Are you kidding? I’m your body guard." He said bowing low.
"One of. You know that I don’t need you or whoever the heck that is." she said nodding at the huge male who had a sour look on his face.
"Ahh yes. But first of all, you must appear as the helpless Kelsy Soholen. Second, even the greatest fighter can’t be everywhere at once."
"I feel stupid." Meela said glaring at the really dedicated reporters who stuck with them.
"You don’t look it."
Meela looked at Duo, then the other guard. "You’re a little smaller there, Duo."
"Um, I’m the brains, he’s the brawn." He said flipping his long brown hair.
"Where are we going?"
"Well, Kelsy had a hotel stay, so we thought we’d take it. Trowa is there waiting for us. And guess who else is here."
"Who?"
"Heero."
"What? Why?"
"Heck if I know. I just know he’s here.
"Well, then why am I here?" Meela muttered.
"You didn’t have to do this mission."
"Yeah, but there is no better way to redeem myself."
"Redeem yourself, Meela? Are you insane? You’re still worked up about that colony? Nobody could have stopped something like that from happening. It’s not your fault."
"Whatever. Lets go," She said pushing passed Duo. He rolled his eyes and followed her.
__________
Meela stepped into the bright hotel room. She saw the form leaning up against the wall, looking out the window.
"Hey Trowa," she said sitting down on the bed. He nodded to her and Duo. Then looked at her other guard.
"Would you please wait outside." Meela said to him. The guard nodded and went outside.
"So. What do you know Trowa?" Meela asked.
He shrugged. "Heero is on the colony. I don’t know what he is doing, he just said that he was here. He’ll contact us later. I can’t stay here long but Meela," he said turning to Meela. "It turns out that you’ll have to go to the meeting. That will be the only time you can get in. After you get them, meet me at the park on Hawthorn Street," he tossed her a phone. "Use this to get in touch with me after you get the papers."
She nodded at him. "At least he’s not treating me differently." she thought.
"Well. See you then." He said nodding to Meela and Duo.
_______
1 day later
"Is the limousine here yet Duo?’ Meela asked putting a barrette in to hold her hair back.
"Yep. Come Miss Soholen." He mocked doing a bow.
"Duo, say that one more time and the world is going to seem a lot like stars and birdies." She said pushing past him.
"Yes ma’am." Duo said following after her.
Meela pushed open the door to the hotel and was swarmed by reporters but she let Duo and the other guard take care of them. A man opened the door to the limousine and Meela climbed in.
"Miss Soholen? Miss Soholen!" Meela snapped out of her trance. "Yes?"
"I was saying that it would be a good thing to let the colony have it’s own protection."
"Protection that you provide. Excuse me Mr. Martinez, but isn’t it your job to protect the colonies whether you have a base on it or not, or they have their own protection." Meela asked.
"Well yes it is but, it is a factory, It will have mobile suites but they will be inoperative until they are out of the factory, so I guess that I made a mistake. No it really won’t give protection to the colony. All we need is a place to have a factory for mobile suit production. So...." He just kept going on and on.
_______
1 hour later
"I’m glad you agree with us Miss Soholen. This will be great steps into our future." Mr. Martinez said. He stood up and shook Meela’s hand. Meela turned and went out the door.
"I’ve ruined it for Kelsy. I got so bored. Man that man can talk and talk. I thought my ear would fall off. It’s like listening to you Duo." Meela complained.
"Kind of you Meela."
"All right. Duo, you stay here I guess, for the time being anyway. All right. See ya."
"Lets go." Duo motioned to the other guard and they started out of the building. "Take care."
Meela nodded and left for the other part of the building.
No one even stopped to look at her pass, they just walked right passed her, some saluting, some shaking her hand, others just nodding. The girl paused at a room that had no sign telling what it was or anything. She tried the doorknob. It was locked. She cursed, and opened up the briefcase, pulled out door lock equipment, and began working on the door. It opened revealing a blank white room, with nothing in it. "No alarm huh. I find that hard to believe. Most likely silent." She moved quickly around the room looking for something that resembled a file cabinet. She ran her hands along the wall, and felt a little dip. Suddenly, a code panel shot out. "Please enter code." It said.
Meela looked at her pass. "Well then." Nothing but her picture and name.
Meela picked up the phone that Trowa had given to her. She dialed the number.
"Trowa, yeah. I’m in the room but to get to the files you have to have a code. Yeah, I guess their alarm systems are off line so they put this." Meela said.
"I don’t know. I’m busy so your going to have to call Kaldea and see if she knows." Trowa said
Meela sighed. "Fine." She hung up and dialed a number that she thought that she never would dial again.
"Hello?" Said a familiar voice.
"Hi. This is Meela." She paused to let that sink in.
Kaldea Orchid sighed. "What do you need?"
"I’m at the Une Foundations new military factory. I’m getting the files on their new fighter, but I guess their security systems are still off line from the guerilla attack so they have a code panel and I don’t know the code. If you could help Trowa will do something for you."
She laughed. "Is Trowa there to confirm that? Hang on." Kaldea said. "Ok. here it is. SD6543YDFQWFIGHTER. Got it?"
"Yeah. Thanks."
"No thanks needed. But I’ll be in touch to see what you can do for me." Kaldea said.
"Yeah whatever. Thank you. Bye."
"Mmmhmm. Bye."
Meela put the phone in her pocket, and put the code in. "If you gave me the wrong code I will kill you." Meela muttered.
"Access granted." The compartment opened. One thing she did notice was a camera. She sighed and covered it with one hand, and ruffled through the files with the other. There were a lot of files but she found the fighter.
Even if she had covered the camera, they still had seen the drawer open. So she hastened to get out of the room.
Once she got to the hall, she broke into a run.
She stopped when she got to the lobby and pushed open the door.
________
Present time.
"But Miss Relena’s on colony Akera. Why would he be here?" Meela asked Trowa.
He shrugged. "It isn’t of any real importance."
She nodded "Anyway. See ya." Meela said and strolled off. She stopped at a corner and the limousine pulled up.
"Did Trowa get the documents?" Duo asked.
"Yeah." Meela said absent-mindedly.
Duo looked at her and decided to leave her alone. He leaned back in the seat and sighed thinking about the war.
"Whacha'’ you thinking about?" Meela asked.
"Nothin’ much. So how did it go?"
"Fairly well. They did have a code panel that I had to call Kaldea over."
"Awww man! Not Kaldea! I tell you that woman is insane! You realize that she’s going to have you do something even more dangerous than flying straight into the Une Foundation headquarters and go up to the Head guy, flick him in the nose and say "You’re it!". Or something equally interesting."
Meela smiled at his reply. "I know. Hey if worst comes to worst, it was Trowa’s idea to call her so he should do it." She said smiling.
"Yeah." Suddenly the T.V. flashed on.
"Wha..." Meela started.
"And now to the latest news on the attempted assassination of Vice Foreign Minister Darlian. The attacks took place between the time of one and three o clock AM. Now we go to the live coverage of one of Miss Relena’s speeches telling the public of her condition. John."
"Thank you Sandy. I am on the colony Allna. The crowd is still cheering from when Miss Relena go on the stage and she is attempting to calm them down."
"What! But the attacks took place on Akera!" Duo said.
"Shhh." Meela said softly.
"The speech was going to take place on Akera but her guards thought it would be safer to move her to another position." The reporter said. Then Relena began her speech.
Meela was not really listening to the speech but she was searching the crowd. "There he is." She whispered.
"Who?" Duo asked looking at Meela.
"Heero. He’s in the crowd," Meela said, her eyes still trained on screen.
"Whoa. He is there." Duo said picking out the brown haired Gundam pilot. "So he’s there protecting her like the proper knight in shining armor."
"Miss Relena. Can you tell us if you will continue the peace talks or go into hiding?" The reporter said. Meela watched the pretty face of Relena Darlian.
"Yes I will continue the peace talks. Going into hiding would be what the attacker wants. I will not bend to will of a desperate attempt of ruining the peace. I will be at the Can Kingdom and the meetings will be there." She said looking tired.
"If Relena’s there, then Heero will be there."
"Yeah but why do you want to talk to Heero?"
"I have a problem that he can solve." Meela said shortly.
"If you’re talking about a broken bone, sure he can set it but since he has no anesthetic it would most definitely hurt. I suggest you go to Dr. Olnta."
Meela snorted. "Duo, has the shuttle that Trowa’s taking back to Peace Million lifted off yet?" she asked.
Duo shrugged. "Dunno. Why?"
"I need to get to my Gundam."
"Ok. I doubt it’s lifted off yet."
Meela turned to him," Thank you." He hated looking into those green eyes. You could get lost in them and they never revealed anything. He looked down and shrugged. "For what?"
"Your helping me." She said.
_________
On Peacemillion
Meela zipped up her flight suit and grabbed her helmet. On the way to the hanger, she grabbed Colonel Une. "I need you to tell Relena that I need to speak with her and Heero. I’m leaving right now."
"Yeah sure. Why?" But Meela was already gone.
She walked to the hanger where she ran into Wufei. She liked Wufei the least of the Gundam pilots because he thought women should not fight. Although she had only beating him once, it was a good fight. She didn’t like being called woman, but put up with it. He still thought that women should not fight exceptions for Noin, Meela, and Colonel Une. At least she’d thought him to respect her even if he didn’t particularly like her.
"Hey Wufei." She said.
He frowned. "Where are you going?"
"Nowhere." She said glaring at him.
He shrugged and continued on his way to his Gundam, Nataku. He didn’t much care for Meela, except the fact that she was a good fighter and they would be hurt if she died. He turned around. "Where are you going?" He said looking into her eyes. They told him nothing.
"I really think that's none of your business." She said glaring back at him. She walked over to Deathwing, Her Gundam and was pulled up by the lift.
She stepped into the cockpit and sat down. Wufei instead of going out of the hanger, he just sealed himself into the cockpit.
She opened the hanger door after everyone had left, and she saw her territory. Space. She fired up the engines and flew out of the hanger.
She flew for a little while pretty much just relaxing, letting Deathwing take over. She leaned back into the seat and watched the stars.
_____
FLASH- If she can’t take the training, kill her. I want her to be just like the Perfect Soldier. Heero Yuy. Make her run it with the Zero system again!"
"But ma‘am..."
"I will have you killed if you say that one more time you fool! Run it again!"
"Her timing is incredible with the Zero system! Look at it! Put it to a higher level."
"But sir. any higher than this and she could lose control."
"I am very aware of that. Move"
"Ma‘am... Get the mobile dolls! Ahhhhh! "
_____
Meela started up in her seat breathing hard. "What was that?" She asked the stars.
Suddenly a beeping announced the arrival of 5 mobile dolls and 2 space Leos. She cursed. It was a scout unit moving to intercept her. She hadn’t spotted them in time to engage her hyper-jammers.
"Oh, well," she muttered and activated her duel-ended scythe. The two Leos held back and the mobile doll Vergo's rushed forward, firing their beam rifles. Meela’s Gundam was the fastest of the seven, and she could even avoid the rapid machine gun fire from the dolls. She dodged and rushed them from the side. Being mobile dolls, they reacted instantly. That was what she was counting on. When they turned towards her, the distance closed even more rapidly. She spun her scythe around and maneuvered between two of the dolls. They were cleaved in half. The other three dolls regrouped and tried to cage her in. She didn’t give them a chance. They activated their shields to form one strong barrier. She grinned. Time to see if her modifications worked. She rushed forward, ignoring the light fire that sparked off her armor and took one slash with the scythe. It penetrated right through the shield and sliced off the heads of all three dolls. She finished them off quickly and sat back. The two Leos were retreating. She had jammed their communications so they couldn’t tell anyone where she was, but she couldn’t let them get away. She threw two throwing disks which penetrated the engines on both suits. They spun out of control then exploded.
"Hmmm. It worked." She said putting her scythes in their compartment on the back.
She sighed, then remembered the dream. She shook her head trying to remember what exactly had happened. She took off her helmet as if it was covering what was going on. But there was nothing but a sharp pain that radiated through her whole body. "What is going on." She said holding her head.
_____
FLASH-She destroyed all the mobile dolls. Her time is tied with Heero Yuy’s time."
"It almost killed her though. Ma’am you can’t.."
"Don’t tell me what I can and cannot do. Get her. Make her run it again. She will be better than Heero Yuy!"
_____
"Uhhhhh." Meela groaned. Her body was throbbing with pain. Her head was in her arms. Suddenly the pain was gone. Meela was still breathing hard though. You don’t just forget pain like that. After a few minuets she raised her head and looked out at the stars.
They were still in the debris field. She quickly pressed a button and they were on their way again. "What is happening to me, Deathwing?" The mobile suit didn’t answer. She knew it wouldn’t.
___________
"Shouldn’t she be here by now?" Miss Relena paced the floor of her office.
"Give her time. She might have run into forces and had to fight." Heero said. He was calmly staring out the window with his arms folded across his chest.
The door opened and Pagan came in. "Your guest is here Miss Relena."
"Thank you Pagan. Show her in."
A girl about 15 stepped into the room. She was wearing black pants and a dark blue shirt with a black light zip up jacket over it. Her dark blond hair was down and hung around her shoulders. And her eyes. They were green with a tint of gray. Miss Relena stared into them, they held a haunted look. Relena gasped silently.
"Meela, this is Relena Darlian. Relena, Meela." Heero said.
"It's nice to meet you Vice Foreign Minister Darlian." Meela said extending her hand.
"Thank you. And please call me Relena."
"Of course." Meela said and sat down.
"I’m sorry I’m late, but I ran into some Une Foundation patrols. Apparently there very nervous, they had 5 mobile dolls with them."
Heero was about to question why she let herself be caught, but decided against it.
"So." Relena said softly.
"Right. Well Relena, this has to do with you mostly. Ok you both know about the Une Foundations public operation, making the colonies and the Earth a better place. But they have things that their doing secretly because well to put it simply, people wouldn’t like it. I’ve figured out something. They don’t need the colonies, right? Yes. They want the Earth and that's it. They want to destroy the colonies but they need you Relena for some reason." Meela said.
"Destroy the colonies?" Heero said surprised. "That wouldn’t give them any advantage."
Relena sighed. "Well actually it would. Not an advantage actually but since the Earth and the colonies aren’t getting along, destroy the colonies and you’ve got some of the people from Earth on your side."
"Your right, however, the people of the Earth don’t want the colonies destroyed, they just want them back on Earth. That I’ve never figured out." Meela said. Her head had started throbbing again and she found it distracting.
"I guess some people from Earth aren’t use to change. They still resent the people that went up on the colonies for rattling their world. Making a change." Heero said "But that was years ago."
"It’s not the Earth’s fault. The Une Foundation is just magnifying it too much." Relena said. "Why do you think it has anything to do with me."
Meela glanced at Heero. He cocked his head to the side waiting for her to continue.
"Well from my understanding, they want you to make sure that the public doesn’t understand too well what's happening."
"And they think I would go along with that." Relena said angrily.
Meela shrugged. "There’s got to be a catch. Black-mail. It’s not unheard of." She said.
"There’s nothing they can do that will make me want to do their bidding." Relena said.
"Exactly how sure are you of that?"
_________
Noin woke suddenly. Her face was soaked with sweat yet she was shivering. This dream had been reoccurring for the past two weeks. Noin wasn’t sure what it meant.
She pressed a button on her communicator. "Colonel. Where’s Meela?"
