The first fellow Gundam pilot Trowa meets is Quatre. Quatre instantly takes a liking to the somber Trowa and befriends him. This friendship continues throughout the series. In fact, at the end, Trowa is the one who rescues Quatre from the Libra. Trowa also has a special connection with Heero. Both pilots are so similar in personality that they strike up an unexpected friendship. When Heero searches for the families of the Alliance leaders he killed, Trowa accompanies him.

Trowa is an excellent pilot, perhaps equal to Heero in ability. In spite of the bulk making up the Heavyarms, Trowa manages to pilot it with a grace befitting an acrobat.
