Final Gundam

By Shinigami30

Prologue-July 4th, A.C. 216

It was quiet in the town of Gemini Falls, a town that earned its name from the twin waterfalls that feed into the river. A town where people almost never stayed up late, and were always up on time. Just your average, quiet, town.

Fifty kilometres south-east of Gemini Falls, there was a military base that had been out of use since three years before the turn of the century, the year Mariemeia Khushrenada's autocracy had been overthrown, and Vice-Foreign Minister Relena Darlian had passed a ban on ownership and manufacturing of weapons. This base was also a test subject, for a terrible atrocity that would transpire that very night.

"All Clear," the man said. He was sitting in a cockpit, reminiscient of those used for mobile suits. It was dark in it, and it was very difficult to see; but this man had no need to see. He was being guided by something else, a sense far beyond seeing. He was being guided by the Zero System.

Two years ago, these people found the remains of the "Gundam Epyon", a mobile suit designed for dueling, fast and deadly. Tall, red, and demonic looking, it truly did fit the "evil side".The most deadly feature, however, was the Zero System, a system that hightened the pilots senses and guided their actions for superior tactical efficiency. There was a dangerous factor, however; it altered your sense of reality, started turning everyone into your "enemy," and thus guiding you towards their elimination. A flaw more and more common as more people used it. In the end, only to pilots used it: Zechs Marqise, and Heero Yuy. They had an extreme degree of control over it, and used not to identify enemies, but for the benefits faster reflexes and effective responses. The two were perfect in every way as a pilot, and had not the ability to make mistakes. Every move they made had been predicted and blocked. They intended those moves to be blocked, because they knew it was their future.

They both also defeated the system, by changing their futures. Epyon told Zechs that he would not give up on his mission to bring endless winter, and it was never wrong. But at the end, Zechs defied it and tried to stop the inevitable, destroying Epyon in the act. Wing Zero told Heero he would die trying to save earth, but with a triumphant "I WILL SURVIVE!" he'd conquered it, completed his mission, and survived.

But now, the system was in the hands of pure evil. And pure evil was taking it for a test drive. The pilot thrusted forwards, his Gundam mobile suit impossible to see in the darkness. The Gemini Stronghold was currently hosting a meeting to discuss the Mars terraforming project and squash the rumours that the remains of a mobile suit made of Gundanium had been found. Those rumours were true, and unfortunately would cost these people their lives. "ETA 12 seconds," the pilot stated.

A counter appeared infront of him, and counted down from 12.

His gundam rocketed forwards with extreme grace, stopped just ten metres above the base, and pointed a large mega-particle cannon at it.

There was an astounding explosion, and a deafening roar of flames. There wasn't a single person in town that wasn't awakened by the chaos. When the explosion was over and the smoke had cleared, the sun started to creep over the hills, slowly. There was no evidence that the mobile suit had even been there.

Far away, Heero Yuy tossed and turned in his bed, in the grasp of a nightmare. At the exact moment that the attack occurred, Heero woke with a start. He was sweating, and he felt like someone just died. He sat up, and got out of his bed. He looked through the window, his mind in deep contemplation. What had waken him? He knew it was something he'd known long ago, but couldn't quite place his finger on it. He studied the Vancouver skyline. Every now and again, a car passed by his apartment building. In a lot of buildings, the lights started turning on, as people started waking early for work.. He turned to the bathroom to go and shave, and looked at the clock.

4:47 AM.

'I have to be at work in less than two and a half hours,' he thought. "I might as well get ready," he said aloud this time, "Seeing as I'd be awake in 13 minutes anyway." He walked over to his dresser and pulled on an undershirt, and strapped on his watch.

Its been very busy in his department lately. He work for the provincial government area that focused on making sure that guns didn't find their way into the hands of humans. Recently, though, people have been able to get their hands on old weapons from back in the 180's and 190's, before the ban on weaponry. Gangs and mafias were the most common place to find weapons, but some younger people have gotten their hands on them, too. And the worst problem was, it was hard to confiscate guns when you yourself have none. That's why Gundam pilots like Heero and Chang Wufei, skilled at disarming people, as well as many new recruits for the police who are trained to do so, are great for the job.

Just then, his cell phone rang, and he picked it up to answer.

"Yuy. What? Are you sure? That's not possible," His face suddenly tightened. " A few guns here and there, I can understand, but enough explosive power to destroy a base as powerful as Gemini Stronghold? How many dead? Zechs, I'll take the day off and head straight to Gemini Falls. See you then." He put the phone down, and thought, 'so that's it. That's what woke me up... but being asleep, I wouldn't have known that had happened...'

In Gemini Falls, there was a very large ceremony dedicated to the sixty-two people who'd had their lives taken in an instant. It took place in a surprisingly large cathedral for such a small town. Inside, There was a list of the names by a statue of Jesus at the front. A minister was speaking up at front, bible in hand. In the corner were two men in the most expensive suits you'd ever see at a funeral. One was medium hight and build, with an unshaven face and dark brown hair that looked like it never met a comb in it's life. His cold blue eyes gave the impression that he was more angry than sad, as if he'd never known happiness. This was Heero Yuy. The man next to him was slightly taller, with a more muscular build. He was better groomed, with a clean-shaven face, long, platinum blonde hair and blue eyes even a guy could appreciate. This was Zechs Marquise.

"Zechs, that girl in the back row keeps looking at you, and then looks as if she's struggling not to giggle," Heero said flatly, but almost as if he was trying not to laugh.

"Heero, don't you think its just a bit inappropriate to joke like that in a place like this?" Zechs replied, glancing at the back row to try and spot this girl.

"But it's true."

"Right," Zechs said, disbelievingly. "Now where the heck is Aleks?"

Zechs hadn't noticed that his son, Aleksander Peacecraft, had taken a seat near the front. He seemed involved in what the minister was saying.

Later, at the reception, he approached a girl that seemed to be the saddest, and most pained.

"What's wrong? You seem to be crying more than anyone else here," He inquired, innocently. She looked up to him, her brown eyes wide and watery.

"Both my boyfriend and my father are among the dead," she sobbed. She bent over and blew her nose. She looked a mess.

"The people who did this... I swear to you on my life, that they will be brought to justice. I'll make sure of it," Aleks said coldly. "My father and I have already started an investigation. It won't be long before they'll caught."

"Who are you, anyway?"

"Aleksander Peacecraft of the Sanc Kingdom. It is our policy to make sure that peace is retained."

"Elektra Raye. Nice to meet you."

"There you are, Aleks." Aleks started. He turned to find himself face to face with his father.

"Dad!" he said, a surprised look on his face.

"It's time to go," Zechs said. Aleks got up, said goodbye to Elektra, and walked out with the other two. As they exited, they discussed what should be done.

"I don't think we have a choice in the matter," Heero said gravely. "We may have to introduce weapons to humanity."

"I've already started," Zechs said, reassuringly.

Author’s note: In the next part, new recruits are chosen to pilot the UESN's new Gundams. But being short of time, they don't have the time to develop and build it. So they go rummaging through designs of old gundams to find a suitable suit. They conclude with the... Well, I'm not going to spoil all the surprises! You'll have to wait.
