Superwoman

by Aryn

Mei crouched down behind a crate and gazed down at the group of drug dealers below her. She had promised Wufei to give him a signal when she needed his help. But judging from the size of the group in the warehouse, she didn’t need any help. Four men in suits never posed a problem before. She gave one glance to the cell phone in her hand and with a smile, slipped it into her pocket. She put a hand on her gun and paused. She hadn’t had a good workout in a long time. Taking her hand off her gun, she vaulted over the railing and bounced down to the first level, using the crates as steps.

She took out the first guy with a blow to the side of his head. The second fell due to a high kick to his head. A gun went off, but Mei was too quick, taking the other two out by a floor sweep. One hit his head on a crate, knocking himself out and the other Mei quickly dispatched with a foot tap to his temple. Smirking at her work, she then pulled out the cell phone.

Wufei lowered the binoculars once more and glared at the old warehouse. Where was Mei? She had called him on the cell phone, informing him she was coming around the side the warehouse. She was supposed to give him a signal that she had gotten inside. He wouldn’t have worried about that, except for the fact there were no windows or anything to give a signal out of. Wufei sighed in frustration and lifted the binoculars to his eyes once more, worried and angry that he was out of touch with his wife at the moment. The phone next to him to rang.

"Wufei."

"Hi honey."

"Mei, where are you?"

"I’m in the warehouse. Could you bring the car around please?"

"What about the dealers?"

"Oh, they’ve been cuffed and read their rights. But I don’t think they really heard them too well."

Wufei shook his head. He should have known better. "I’ll be there right away."

By the time he had pulled the car up to the door, Mei had it propped open and was dragging the second culprit out the door. Thankfully none of them woke up till they reached the police station where they were taken into custody. Wufei collected the money while Mei filled out the police report. They had been bounty hunters long enough to get a routine down.

Mei slid into the passenger side of the car and looked at her watch. "That was the fastest time yet, thirteen minutes."

Wufei pulled out of the parking lot. "All right. Just in time to pick up Hana and Li at school. But first, I have a question."

"What?"

Wufei looked over at her shirt with up raised eyebrows. "Where did you get that shirt?"

Mei glanced down at the bright blue shirt. "Oh, Arys got it for me as a joke. I couldn’t find anything else to wear when you called me."

"Why did Arys get you a Superman shirt?"

Mei smirked. "For putting up with you."

"I hate it when you women get together."

Mei went to retaliate but she saw the corners of his mouth twitch as he tried to hide his smile. Instead she slapped his arm. "You stupid man."

The kids climbed into the back of the car, and the sounds of book bags being shoved on the floor and the snapping of seatbelts momentarily filled the car.

"Hey, Daddy’s here." Hana spoke up.

"Are we going right home?" Li asked.

Mei smirked at the question. She knew Li loved it when they took him to the bonds office. "No, we have to stop off and see Ed for a minute."

"Whoa, Mom, cool shirt!"

Wufei snorted at Li’s comment.

Hana leaned forward to see the shirt. "Where’d you get that?"

"Mrs. Yuy gave it to me."

"Why?" Li asked.

Hana rolled her eyes. "Because she’s Superwoman, why else?"

"It’s Superman, Hana. So why doesn’t Dad have one?"

"Good question Li."

Mei looked over in disgust at her husband. "I’ll get you one for your birthday."

"I want a shirt like that." Hana said. "I want to be Superwoman, just like Mom."

Li wrinkled his nose at Hana. "You can’t be Superwoman. You’re not a woman."

Hana grew indignant. "I am too."

Li crossed his arms. "Fine. I’m a man."

"Well, if Mom and Dad are already Superman and Superwoman, we can’t be either one of them."

Li kept quiet for a minute, thinking about what Hana had said. "Dad?"

"Yeah?"

"Can I be Superman?"

"Sure."

Li turned and gave Hana a smug grin.

"Mom?"

"Yeah?"

"Can I be Superwoman?"

"Sure."

"Wait," Li spoke up, "then who are Mom and Dad going to be?"

Mei turned to Wufei to see if he was going them. And judging by the slight smirk on his face, he was.

"Mom and I can be Catwoman and Batman."
