Finishing Up

Once I got all of the holes, metal removal and what not done, I then used the "Mouse" to sand the rough edges off the casting (near the bottom of the magazine well and around the buffer tube area) and to smooth out the inevitable marks from the work done on it. I then applied a coat of Brownell's Alumahyde II and here was the final result:

Now I have read elsewhere that others have had less than ideal results with Alumahyde II, but I for one liked the results. As you can see from the photo, the match in colour and texture between my lower and the upper (which is anodized, straight from FN) is very close. And so far it appears to be quite resistant to scratches. (And you can't see the J B Weld, so there.)

Anyhow, that was my winter project. Here is the final result:
