Game review 1: Homeworld
By Sierra Studios and Relic Entertainment.
Strategy games aren't exactly known for good music, but Homeworld has some interesting and mysterious music. The sounds are very good for the games and details, such as ship engines getting louder as you get closer, are also implemented.
The layout is easy to use and the resource and score displays are non-intrusive. The camera is easy to use, and they have extremely simple tutorials so that even the slowest of newbies can learn it quickly.
The single player missions are well thought-out and even gave me a shrivel up my spine when i learned the news from mission 3. The cinematics were awesome and I almost didnt want them to end. Unfortunately, the missions were very difficult, even with a step by step strategy guide.
Now, take all that and put it online with up to eight people. The online feature is easy, and doesn't require you to open up an internet explorer window to get to a game hosting site or anything. The games can be very long however, so you might save it for the weekends. Unfortunately, the map editor is next to impossible to use, so you can't create your own map unless you are familiar with the interface. The value of this game is great, so what'cha waiting for? get out there and buy it or borrow it from your local library!
