Message Board Politics

    Recently on a Message Board (M.B.) I witness and was indeed part of an argument that began innocently enough as a hello and turned into who was an expert of GW and whether UC was better than AC.  I'm rather sorry I ever opened my mouth.  While I refrained from being crude and tried very hard to remain what I like to think of as "coldly polite' I did allow myself to get fluster.

     So, I'm writing this little article to help keep newbie and veterans like from putting their foot into their mouth.  (I watch several M.B.'s, but I rarely post; I find I can keep control of my tongue much better that way).  So here we go:

1) Remember which board your on.  If you are on an AC board, don't go bashing AC.  If you are on an UC board, don't go basing UC.  If you need a reason, how about it is rude and what would your mother think?  People are on the M.B. to feel a certain community that isn't always easy to find anywhere else but online; not to be told how stupid they are or that they are inferior.

2) If you're going to post, post on an appropriate thread.  For example; a fan of Relena's (and there have to be some out there) should perhaps avoid thread with the titles "Relena Peacecraft, Die, Die, Die!" and "101 ways to kill Relena".  I'm just trying to say that you should post in the proper thread.  And remember, the people posting in these thread that voice opinions different from yours are allowed to have them and indeed post them, even if it makes you mad or angry.  No one made you read their comments, you choose too.  Read everything with a grain of salt and with some humor.

3) Be polite.  My mother has always put a lot of stock in manners (and she still does).  Be polite, don't use foul language, call people nasty names, use threats or other such behavior; it doesn't help and make you out to be a horse's read end.

4) Obey the rules that of the M.B.  I know that it seems silly, but they are there to make the M.B. a nice place to visit. 

5) If you should get yourself banned from a board, don't send your friends onto the board to harass the members there, it just makes you look like a bully and makes your friends look silly.  If one of your friends gets banned from a board, don't go bully the board, I'm sure it wouldn't solve the problem and will just get peoples hackles up all over again.
