BACKGROUND

Spurred into action by the devastating effectiveness of Zeon’s mobile suits, the Earth Federal Forces began developing mobile suits of their own, a project known as ‘Project V.’ Culminating in the creation of the RX-78-2 Gundam, RX-77-2 Guncannon and RX-75-4 Guntank, the mobile suits proved themselves to be just as devastating to the Zeons. As the One Year War progressed, mobile suit development accelerated, and designers began attempting to combine the best features of the original Project V suits with new technologies being developed by Earth Federal Forces engineers, including those influenced by Zeon mobile suits.

The RX-78-6 Gundam Mudrock was one such design constructed at the Earth Federal Forces’ South America Jaburo base. The mobile suit featured a pair of powerful 300 mm shell-firing cannons mounted on it’s backpack, and a pair of beam sabers mounted outboard of the barrels. The other distinguishing features of the Mudrock were the enormous number of maneuvering verniers mounted all over it’s body, and the pair of variable position verniers mounted on the legs, giving the massive mobile suit unprecedented speed and agility, comparable to the MS-09 Dom. The Mudrock’s high generator output allowed it to use a full scale beam rifle, similar in design to the one used by the RX-78-2. In addition, the Mudrock was capable of using more mundane weapons, such as the Federation’s primer-based rifle, and a 90 mm machine gun. All design features taken into account, the Mudrock was more than a match for any contemporary Zeon mobile suit.

Despite expectations on both sides, the Mudrock's performance in the One Year War was failed to live up to nearly all expectations, demonstrated on December 15 when the mobile suit was destroyed by Zeon mobile suits guarding the HLV launch facility at California Base. Combat data from the mobile suit was met with skepticism from the outset; the design of the Gundam was, on paper, the ultimate mobile suit of the Gundam series, rivaled only by the G-4 series developed around the same time. All attempts at analysis failed to explain the poor performance of the suit... until a Captain James Carter, would-be Captain of the assault carrier Blanc Rival, cross referenced findings on the Mudrock with data received from the combat computer of the RX-78-2 on the assault carrier White Base. Carter concluded correctly that the flaw in the design rested with the PILOT, not the mobile suit itself. Further research into the Gundam and its pilot was conducted throughout and after the One Year War

Then, in 0083, the formation of the Titans Special Operations Forces provided a shot in the arm to V Project, as well as three spin-off programs P, G and N. Gundam Mudrock was handed over to developers of Project N as a testbed for the development of advanced newtype weaponry, and following a brief modification and rebuilding the mobile suit was transferred to the space forces for use by pilots on the assault carrier Tarawa, at that time deputized by Titans military for covert operations.--

RPG STATS

Vehicle Type:

Class: Newtype Use Mobile Suit
Manufacturer: Earth Federal Forces/Project N
Crew: pilot only, in standard cockpit in torso

MDC BY LOCATION:

(1) Head 90
    Arms (2) 180 each

(2) Main vernier pack 200
    Shield (optional) 200
    300mm shoulder cannons (2) 120 each
    Beam rifle 100
(3) Cockpit hatch 50
(4) Main Body 360
NOTES:
  1. Destroying the head of the mobile suit will knock out the mobile suit's major sensor systems, including all of the optics systems (infrared, nightvision, thermal) and radar systems. The pilot will still have limited field of vision with the mobile suit's four backup cameras.
  2. Destroying one thruster will reduce the flight speed of the Gundam in space by 15%. Destroying all four thrusters will force the Gundam to rely on leg verniers and AMBAC systems for mobility. (- 3 to dodge) Destroying the main vernier pack completely will cause an additional 2D6x10 M.D. to the main body and render the shoulder cannons innoperable.
  3. Depleting the MDC of the cockpit will kill the pilot instantly and render the mobile suit useless.
  4. Depleting the MDC of the Main Body will destroy the mobile suit, probably killing the pilot as well.

WEAPON SYSTEMS:

  1. XBR-L85A BEAM RIFLE (1): This beam weapon is one of the most effective anti-mobile suit weapons ever built by Federation engineers. Based on the original beam rifle design of the RX-78-2, this handheld mega particle weapon represents a compact version of the larger mega particle weapons equipped on most Federation and Zeon warships. For defense, the beam rifle is equipped with a small "jitte" blocking unit on the barrel for catching enemy beam sabers, giving the Gundam pilot an additional edge in close combat. The beam rifle is powered by a rechargeable capacitor.

  2. 300mm SHOULDER CANNONS: Designed with the original Mudrock Gundam, these two shoulder cannons were based loosely on the cannons on the RX-77 Guncannon mobile suits. They are primarily used for artillery support and heavy assault against distant targets, but the extremely high muzzle velocity of the cannons makes them highly effective against mobile suits as well.

  3. 55mm HEAD VULCAN (2): For close combat, the Gundam is equipped with a pair of 55mm head vulcans mounted just above the sensor plate. These machineguns aren't all that powerful on their own, but their rapid firing rate supplements superb accuracy and form the head vulcans into valuable defensive tools. They can be used to shoot down missiles, small fighters, or even damage specific parts of enemy mobile suits with better accuracy than any other handheld weapons. .

  4. BEAM SABER (2): Regardless of armor or weapons loadouts, most mobile suits are both most vulnerable and most deadly in close quarters. Therefore, the Mudrock is equipped with two plasma/energy beam sabers designed specifically for close combat against enemy mobile suits or warships. The beam saber can penetrate any armor material known to man, but can usually be partially deflected by other melee weapons, including Zeon heat blades and some shields.

  5. CLOSE COMBAT: If necessary, the RX-78-4 can engage in melee combat rather than use a weapon. The mobile suit is extremely agile and can execute most typical hand to hand combat moves, such as punches, jump kicks, leap attacks, rolling with impacts, etc.

    1. DAMAGE (BEAM SABER):

    2. One handed Slash: 4D6x10 M.D.

    3. Two handed Slash: 4D8x10 M.D.

    4. Boosted Slash: 5D8x10 M.D.

    5. Stab/thrust: 2D8x10 M.D. (plus penetration to all in line systems)

    6. Diving Slash: 5D6x10 MD

    7. DAMAGE (HAND TO HAND):

    8. Restrained Punch: 4D6 M.D.

    9. Full Strength Punch: 2D6x10 M.D.

    10. "Booster" Punch: 2D8x10 M.D. (counts as two attacks)

    1. Tear or Pry with Hands: 5D6 M.D.

    2. Kick: 6D6 M.D.

    3. Leap Kick: 6D8 M.D.

    4. Body Flip/Throw: 3D8 M.D.

    5. Body Block/Tackle: 5D8 M.D.

    6. Stomp: 4D6 M.D. (only effective against small objects)
