End of a Legend Pt. 2

It feels so warm.

He could only see flashes of images. They don’t make any sense and they look so blurry. So blurry. There is no sound that he can recognize. He tried to piece together what happened. There was a fight. He thought he might have won. But there was something else.

Yes. That had to be it.

I remembered something during that fight. It was clearer moments earlier. Now, it was in pieces. However, he managed to grab one of those said pieces before it slipped away. That’s when he started to see everything.

There was a war. He was the one leading his unit. They were the top for Heaven. They were determined to come back victorious. For days, they kept to that vow. But… Something wasn’t right. Nobody noticed it at first. How could they when there was a war going on? He would only see it too late.

More pieces started to come together.

First was the smell of iron. They went into this battle blind. At first, everything looked so easy. Too easy. It was he who noticed that something wasn’t right. He ordered everyone to stand down. He looked at the empty battlefield of Purgatory. They were in the right place. Still, he couldn’t get rid of this uneasy feeling. His ears caught something in the distance.

“Stand down!” he shouted at the troops.

It gets hazy from there. He tries to see what happened. But it’s not working. That’s when he remembered something else that Engel said. Yeah. They were fighting. He said one more thing before the final blow. What was it? What was it?

That’s when it struck him.

“They didn’t tell you, did they?”

What did that mean? More images started to come together. But they are going too fast. He didn’t get time to grab onto any of them. Time. There was something that he needed to do. Come on! What was it? What was it?

Daddy, help me!

He froze. It was at that moment that something stabbed him right in the back. He didn’t even get time to make a sound. His limbs spasmed as it landed right into his spinal cord. His body dropped face down into the mud. He couldn’t feel his body or move. But someone was speaking over his head. He managed to look up in time to see who was talking to him. What did they look like? He couldn’t see their face. What were they saying? Only one word slipped in.

Traitor.

More images skipped around too fast and started building up upon each other. Through all of this, he could only make out one thing that Engel was talking about.

“He betrayed and killed me.”

Spike jerked open his eyes. He jumped to his feet, panting. So that was what Engel was trying to tell him. However, the cowboy didn’t get a chance to take it all in. He had to go and save his daughter. Spike dusted himself off and started walking. He will catch up with his family soon.
