Sisters of the Stars

A sixteen-year-old girl with long black hair stood in front of the Elegant household's old mansion. The Elegants were a rich and famous family who had died off in the early nineteen hundreds, yet, their beautiful and mysterious mansion was still in good condition. The Benaquista family had purchased it as their new home in Salem, Oregon. The girl sighed, unhappy with the new house, yet, intrigued that it was supposed to be haunted. As she opened the door, she prepared to choke on dust or better yet, have a piece of debris fall on her head, and put her out of her misery of moving. No such luck. It figured.

"Mom, when are we going to move out of this dump?" she asked, fiddling with the necklace she had received from her father, a long chain with the emblem of the earth and moon hanging from it. She liked to call it Midnight, many reasons behind this fact will soon be discovered, but not yet. Her mother's exasperation was clear as she held a heavy cardboard box in her hands and walked up the steps, answering her.

"It's not a dump, and I don't plan on moving for the next three years, Sara. Learn to like it...you'll find out that there are girls just like you, what, with the interest of all of the spooky magic stuff you talk about a lot and what not... Salem is said to be haunted, you know." her mother made a scary face as she entered the upstairs hallway, towards Sara's new room.

"Well, I still don't really like this place. It's boring. And besides, everyone knows that it's rare to find girls my age that believe in the spirit world." Sara sighed following her mother upstairs, burying her hands into the pockets of her long, black, belted sweater.

'Maybe tomorrow will be better...' Sara hoped as she looked out the dusty window, seeing it was just about twilight. She sat in her room, and dozed off into sleep.

The next morning, Sara woke up and got ready for school, wearing her usual, a black pair of pants and a black shirt. She had crimped, faded black hair that had a tint of blue when light reflected off of its shiny locks. She winced in exaggeration as she thought about what her first day of school in Salem would be like...every kid would think she was a freak, and she would hate it, as normal. Sighing, Sara walked out the door, walking her way down the road to school.

"Sierra Strahota?" the teacher was taking roll call.

"Yeah, here." A girl with black hair in a tight ponytail, dressed in a gray top and black pants replied in a dull tone. Sara sat in the seat behind her, leaning back and watching her, noticing her black nail polish.

"Kyle Doup?" the teacher looked around, pushing her glasses back up her nose. Kyle was a girl who was into witchcraft, and so was Sierra. They both scared the teachers and threatened people, thus, they didn't have many friends. Sara looked around for Kyle, and found a perfectly normal looking girl dressed in black. She smiled happily, saying, "Here!" in a cheery voice. Sara looked surprised. After announcing a couple other kids' names, Sara finally heard hers.

"Sara Benaquista?" the teacher called. Sara wanted to sound as antisocial as possible, she made a mean glare and sighed, "Here." Kyle and Sierra, who sat next to each other, both took a quick glance at the new girl.

"Okay then, let's get on with class..." the teacher moved on.

During lunch, Sara looked around for a seat. She didn't eat lunch. Ever.

"Hey! New girl! Come here!" Sara heard Kyle call from her seat next to Sierra. They sat alone at a round table. Sara sat across from Kyle.

"What's up?" she asked.

"Oh, nothing much, just the usual things that go wrong on the first day at a new school." Sara said as she played with the fringe of her black jacket.

"Look," Kyle spoke as she crumbled up her lunch bag, "here's my address. Come over after you finish your homework. We'll both be there... oh, and by the way, my name's Kyle. This is Sierra." she flicked back her short brown hair. Sara nodded.

"I'm Sara. I just moved into the Elegant's old mansion." Kyle and Sierra gasped with delight.

"Oh my god, you really live there? Okay, forget going to my house, we're going to your mansion! This'll be so cool!" Kyle squealed. Sara smiled. Maybe living at the Elegants mansion wouldn't be so bad, after all.

"So, this is what 10 years had done to this crumby old place! It looks great! We were just here a month ago, and it was totally trashed. Man, your mom does wonders!" Sierra exclaimed as she twirled around in Sara's huge bedroom, glancing at the ceiling.

"So, what kind on stuff do you have on witchcraft?" Kyle said, getting to business. Sara sighed and guided the two up a small set of stairs and into the attic room, where there was a huge star with a circle around it, better known as a pentagram, traced in white on a black carpeted floor.

"The Elegants' daughter, Trinity Elegant, must have been a witch. I found this pentagram on the floor, it's where I spend most of my time in the house. The rest is really old looking and dusty. The weird thing is, only half of this stuff is mine. I guess the rest of it is hers?" Sara said in question to the other two girls who glanced around the room which hadn't a speck of dust. The room was quite clean considering it was part of a house that had been untouched for 10 years. It was almost...spooky, in a way, but spooky was a good thing to witches. Sara sat in the middle of the pentagram. She was dressed in a black dress that was slightly transparent and wore a strapless dress underneath it. She lit one black candle, then another, followed by yet another, until five were lit. One for each point of the circle. Kyle and sierra invited themselves into the circle, gripped a black candle, and sat down, each at a bottom point.

“I hope you two know the beginning pentagram spell. Let’s say it together.” Sara sighed and began the spell..

“Pentagram, holding power of the light, shine bright, we envoke thee.” Suddenly, there was a bright flash of light...

Sara, Sierra, and Kyle awakened, all laying in an open field. Kyle rubbed her head groggily and said, “What did we say?” Suddenly, a young girl appeared before them, and whispered words that the three witches were unable to hear. She signaled for the girls to follow her, and they obeyed.

After a while, Sierra, Sara, and Kyle watched as the girl disappeared and left them to find there way home, in what seemed to be a small old-fashioned village. Women in long ankle length dresses, men dressed elegantly, and children making a commotion crowded the busy streets. Sara looked around, a bit confused. People of her age and time did not dress this way, even if they had somehow found themselves in another country. This meant, that they had somehow gone back in time by stepping into the pentagram… the pentagram that was made by Trinity Elegant… It was all too creepy. Now, Sara, Sierra, and Kyle were confused. Sara spoke first, though, she felt as if she had gone mute.

“I think that by performing the pentagram ritual on a very old pentagram, which was created by a full-blooded wiccan, we have been sent back in time, to Trinity Elegant’s time….any one know what year it---”

“Eighteen Oh two.” Sierra replied, no emotion on her face. Sara and Kyle gasped with exasperation. How were they ever going to get back to their own time?

“People of Salem, gather ‘round, to witness that these three sisters…Abigail, Sarah, and Trinity Elegant have been accused of practicing witchcraft, and will be hanged.” a gentleman stood before three women there stood there, nooses around their necks.

“Do what you please with our bodies, but you shall never kill our souls. They will run wild and free in the night, and someday, when a future witch finds my pentagram, they shall be taken a back to find what I have been through. She, and the two of her companions shall become the sisters of the stars, and will realease our souls from captivity, so mote it be!” Trinity Elegant cried. Sara gasped.

“That means that we are…” Kyle began, but was cut off by the dreadful sounds of the noose tightening and finally, lifting the three sisters off their feet, into a slow, painful death. She couldn’t imagine what it was to die. Sara suddenly was struck with a bolt of courage to stand up in front of these towns people.

“Stop, people pf Salem. The final words of Trinity Elegant are true. I have come here from the future, and I am the leader of the sisters of the stars now. We have found Trinity’s pentagram, in her mansion. And now, the sisters’ souls roam wild in the winds… where they are, not even you foolish people know. Hanging those three girls was this biggest mistake of your lives. Farewell, we shall depart back to our world.” Sara walked to Kyle and Sierra and held hands ina circle with them.

“Depart us back to our true world, our time, our place, our way.” they spoke. A portal appeared, and the girls were gone.

~*~

“Well, I guess we are…” Sara opened her eyes as did the other girls as they got up from the pentagram, and held hands in a triangle. They closed their eyes and spoke, “The Sisters Of The Stars.”

The souls of the three Elegant sisters appeared next to the girls and smiled at them, laughing evilly…
