People poured out of the club and into the streets as smoke billowed and poured into the air.
"Talpa," Cye spat. Rowen nodded. Kento pulled out the list, checking it briefly.
"That must be Miruhashi plant that makes feet. We don't have long to stop Talpa," Kento said.
"Ah, but the parts are useless without the nine seals. I would devote your time to finding them, rather than the parts. Talpa will locate the parts no matter what you do," Treize said.
Cye, Rowen and Kento looked at him. "Excuse me?"
Treize smiled faintly. "Actually, I think it will be much harder for Talpa to find those seals than you. Take care..." With that, Treize disappeared into the crowd.
Cye, Rowen and Kento met the other Preventers at the site of the latest explosion. This plant made the feet for Talpa’s body. The fire here was also put out quickly.
Quatre shook his head grimly at the scene, then looked at Kento. “Do you have the list?”
Kento nodded, handing it to him. “Yes, but Treize thinks it would be better to try and track down the seals, because Talpa doesn’t know where all of them are.”
Quatre nodded. “That’s something to consider. However, if Talpa plans to treat the other four sites the same way he’s treated the first two, we must try and stop him from blowing up more factories.”
“So, what are we doing, fearless leader?” Duo asked.
“We are going to stake out the sites on this list. We are also going to run a computer search for the remaining five seals. If we can’t stop him from stealing the parts, the least we can do is stop him from blowing them up. With any luck we will also be able to capture some of Talpa’s operatives.”
Stake outs are boring. This much is known. But perhaps the depth of boredom is not quite understood. During a stake out, there is no talking, no interaction of any kind in fact. This is in the interest of vigilance, however at this level, any thing that alleviates boredom is welcome.
Thus, the game of hide the dime was invented. It’s a game where you ‘hide’ a mythical dime, and people have to guess where it is. This dime could be literally anywhere, so you ask questions to narrow it down. Of course, since you can’t interact with other people, you are playing it by yourself. Needless to say, it was not particularly successful.
It was seven hours before someone did finally show up. Two people arrived, broke into the factory and stole a pair of cybernetic arms. They didn’t appear to be carrying charges of any kind, which was puzzling.
“Preventers, you are under arrest!”
Both people smiled darkly. They were wearing some type of necklace, which was a glowing kanji. Before either of them had time to register, a wave of darkness hit, followed by a huge explosion.
“We detected an explosion. Kento and Wufei, report in.”
“We’re clear.”
“Rowen and Duo, report in.”
“Nothin’ here.”
“Trowa and I are clear. Cye and Quatre, report in. Cye and Quatre, do you read? Over.”
“Oh shit...”
“Quatre!”
