Sheer willpower defined Hal Jordan from the moment the ace test pilot discovered the mortally wounded body of Abin Sur, an alien member of the galactic peace-keeping Green Lantern Corps. Assuming the power ring and power battery of the fallen protector, Jordan was resolute in carrying out his duties as the Green Lantern of Sector 2814. Augmenting the most powerful weapon in the universe with his strength of will, Jordan became the greatest of Green Lanterns and a founding member of the original Justice League of America before Hal, most of his teammates, friends and family were killed in a nuclear explosion. That explosion was caused by the death of Captain Atom and it also destroyed Hal's hometown of Coast City. If you read DC Comics, you know the Green Lantern Corps is lucky Hal was killed.
