Squad history. In the early part of 1943, members from Brick FAS saw the need to expand. Back then, there was only one squad, located in the center of town. Since the population was growing, an effort was made to broaden the EMS coverage ability, and reduce response time. A few members split from Brick FAS and formed the 'Adamston Community First Aid and Emergency Squad'. The first site was chosen in the south-east 'Adamston' section of town, as the story goes, it was an old barn/garage, located on Adamston Road. The second site came a few years later. It's our current location on Mantoloking Road. The original brick building was finished in 1946 and was big enough to hold just a few rigs. A few years later a 'cape cod' style house with 2 new bays was added to the west side of the brick building. The Brick section then became the hall and kitchen used for meetings and parties. Once the house portion was completed, the original agreement with the first occupants allowed them to live there rent-free as long as they promised to answer the emergency phone, day or night and sound the big, pole-top siren to alert the duty crew of a medical emergency. (to be continued...) Please see our 'Squad Pictures' page for lots of pix from the original barn up to how the building looks today...
