Accidents do happen: What originally began as the first Resident Evil title for the PlayStation 2 has evolved into one of the strongest games of the year, Devil May Cry. Devil’s more than an offshoot of the RE series that puts new characters in familiar situations—quite the contrary. This unique game has style, technique, and beautiful looks to match. Playing as a devil hunter, you’ll hack-n-blast through a castle island packed with monsters and other supernatural terrors. However, Devil’s biggest strength is the main character’s plethora of attacks and other techniques, though they require skill and patience to master. Devil raises the PlayStation 2 bar and it should be interesting to see how other releases fare in comparison—especially the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. The Devil May Cry, but gamers will weep if they pass on this one; it’s fantastic.
