Naraku is the evil evil guy in the series. Without him, there would basically be no conflict, and really no reason to have a series. Naraku is the one who screws with everyone, regardless of who they are or how much he's worked with them in the past. 50 years ago, a theif named Onegumi was burnt completely, and Kikyo cared for him. Onegumi fell madly in lust/love with her, and offered hundreds of demons to join in his body so he could become demon. Unfortunately, Naraku is a half-demon. He seeks the Shikon no Tama to become full demon, but I think he's wreaking enough havoc as it is.
