Ryu was a student of the Goukens dodgo. Ryu studied there with his rival/bestfriend Ken Master. Ryu and Ken studied the art of hadou. One day Master Goukens brother Akuma killed Gouken. After that Ryu and Ken desided to go there seprate ways, occasionaly coming back to honour there masters grave or have a friendly fight.
Ryu now wanders the world in search of stronger fighter than he is. As he travelled he came across fighting Sagat the King of Muay Tai. People thought Sagat was the best until he was defeated by Ryu(making sagat his mortal enemy).
Ryu is constanly in battle against himself as he try's to keep the dark hadou from coming out.
