This may have nothing to do with anything and is by no means backed up by hard stats. More of an UNOFFICIAL word of mouth and opinion formed from the daily news media and my experiences traveling across America over the years. I have traveled to probably 45 states in the USA. And the Carrib islands -- just throw these in cuz many peoples head to NY and Florida from the Carrib. Eventually these people make their roots in US. I noticed a trend among the Christian conservative and the liberal brethren to be divided Republican and Democrat more or less 50-50. And more importantly this trend was the reality that gays were really divided 50-50 (I know there is a bi-sexual joke here, but I'll save that for another day). So, in an election these groups split their votes equally for the prez elections 2004. A simple deduction from this writer is that a swing vote was made not by the young -- who after a four year coming of age could have made a big difference in the outcome of the elections, but didn't. They too, were equally divided Reps vs. Dems. And I was really proud of Michael Moore's efforts to get the young to get out the vote. Problem was these young were divided and/or both did not vote. And when you are young the war in another country(ies) is far away. (And yes, there was a great voter turn out. And yes, there are more gun owners than at any other time in the history of the USA!) Just like the satire film WAG THE DOG suggested -- people did not want to change horses in the middle of a stream/river. It is "common sense" Americanism. What more could be expected of people who watch Jerry Springer or Oprah for their news awareness in America? And who think they are watching serious reporting from the nightly The Daily Show with Jon Stewart? And who would the cast of FRIENDS have voted for? This debate will go on for a long time I'm sure. My unofficial opinion puts the blame for the outcome of the prez elections 2004 on the undecided voters and those who did NOT show up to vote. Those non-votes, in the millions, were a vote for ....!? Am I right or am I wrong?!?!? Unofficially speaking. -- end -- |
