Vladmir Lenin

Early Years

• Born Vladmir Ulyanov on April 10, 1870 on Simbirsk on the Volga
• At school, he was incredibly bright (was compared to a walking encyclopedia)- it was said that he was possesed with an insatiable scholarly curiosity
• Despite his extensive knowledge, he had no friends
• Attended college in St. Petersburg
  • began studying Marxist ideas and getting involved in rebel activity there

• Lenin was arrested in December of 1895 along with other revolutionaries and was exiled in Siberia
• When done with his exile, he founded the Russian Communist Party
• He was the moving force behind the 1917 Russian Revolution.
• His extreme Marxist ideas, his devotion to those ideas and his leadership skills made him a well known (although not necissarily liked) leader.
