Author’s Notes: Exspecto is Latin for ‘to look for, expect’.
He knew of men who waited, with blank smiles upon their lips, and a blade hidden in voluminous robes. He recognized the end when they closed rank, when all was confusion, and then he felt the first division of his flesh under cruel blades.
Hurried movements, flashing pains. Shocking crimson staining pure white until white became the lesser. Then cold floor beneath him. Eyes watching as he fell in slow motion to the floor, voices shouting out in pride, in horror. They all faded now.
The end of his legacy visited upon him at his choosing. They did not know.
