Title: Sun Was Setting

Author: Elandae
Pairing: Odysseus/Diomedes

Rating: G

Disclaimer: They belong to themselves and arguably Homer, but certainly not to me. Much as I’d like that, think I came into the picture about 3, 000 years (give or take a few hundred *g*) too late to even have a go at that.

Warning: Some violence, but it’s not graphically detailed.

Author’s Notes: This was done in an attempt the get the creative juices flowing as my Muses aren’t speaking to me. I took a few randomly selected phrases from ‘The Odyssey’ and incorporated each into a drabble. There are others but this is the only one that's at least moderately satisfactory.

(‘sun was setting’)

The darkened sea was painted the shade of wine as the sun was setting across its restless expanse. I exhaled slowly, feeling the dull ache in my ribs where a blow dealt during battle today has darkened the skin, even sheltered as I was by my armor.

Odysseus looked over at me and I know those sorcerer’s green eyes must read my every thought.

“Tomorrow is another day,” he said easily, taking a slow drink.

I looked at him, firelight gently playing over his features. “I am in no hurry when the night has such promise yet.”

He smiled then.
