Dave paused in the doorway, eyes wide, blatantly staring at the men before him. Craig was standing with his back to Dave, with someone kneeling before him. Dave couldn’t see the face.

‘You’re not supposed to put it there. No! Ow!’ Craig exclaimed.

‘Well if you would quit moving, this would be over with faster,’ the reply was muffled, but clearly Karl’s voice.

‘Well, it’s not my fault that you can’t figure out how to do this!’

‘Hey, I’m trying here. It would be a hell of a lot easier if you weren’t complaining so much.’

‘Do I need to do this for you?’

‘No, I can get it.’

Dave’s eyes widened as he leaned against the doorway. He knew he shouldn’t be standing there, but he couldn’t help himself.

Karl’s hands were at Craig’s hips, and Dave could see them moving about from where he stood. A sharp tug had Craig stepping forward into Karl.

‘Aren’t you done with that yet?’ Craig’s tone was slightly tinged with frustration.

‘Christ you’re impatient today, Craig. Just give me another minute; I think I’ve almost got it.’

‘It’s about time; you’ve been down there forever.’

‘I have not. Didn’t I tell you to stop squirming?’

‘What the hell are you doing? You’re going to break it, you know.’

‘No, it won’t. It’s been through rougher stuff than this. This one is on there for good.’ Karl heard a slight scuffling sound in the doorway. His head appeared around Craig’s hips, staring right at Dave, who stared back for a moment, before suddenly disappearing down the hallway.

Craig noticed Karl staring at the doorway and he turned quickly, Karl jerking after him.

‘What was that?’

‘Dave.’

‘What?’

‘He was standing there. Staring at us.’

‘He was?’

‘Yeah.’

‘Why didn’t you say something?’

‘You should have seen the look on his face,’ Karl exclaimed, dissolving into laughter.

Craig stood there watching him for a moment, Karl completely forgetting about what he had been doing before Dave interrupted them. Craig reached down and with a few practiced flicks of his wrist he loosened the silver wristband of Karl’s watch from where it has snared on his pants.

The End.
