The call
It was time to snuggle in my blankets
And fall fast asleep,
But one thing was strange.
I felt it all around.
I was waiting for a call,
One from my dad,
Just to let me know
He was coming home.
I know it was odd
For him to be so late in
Making the call,
So I decided to talk with God.
When He answered,
What He said I didn't want to hear;
"Something has happened,
But do not fear:
Your dad is with me here."
Then my telephone rang.
"This is officer smith
With the Euless Police Department.
Is there an adult home?"
"No but my dad will be back any minute.
Is there a problem?"
"I need to talk with you.
May I come over?"
Hoping it wouldn't be bad news,
I waited by the door,
But when he arrived
I knew something was wrong.
"On his way home, your dad was in an accident.
He didn't make it.
On 360 a drnk driver crossed the median
And hit your dad's car head on.
We tried to bring him back,
But there was nothing we could do."
Only God could help me then,
For all I could do was sigh.
I asked for his guidance,
And His answer came from on high:
"Know that I'm your father
And your dad is with me here.
Know my love is greater
Than any pain you bear.
When you feel alone,
Whenever you wonder why,
Turn to Me in prayer,
And I will guide you through."
