My Encounter With The Boys
This is a true story
Well it was March 27th 1997 and 4 friends and I had planned to go to the autograph session to meet the boys and get there autographs. The Backstreet Boys were to show up around 2pm so we decided if we were there around 8:00 we would beat the rush of all the girls!! Boy were we wrong we got there at 8:00am and it was already getting packed! We all got in line and started waiting we had a long wait!! It was pretty quiet so far and it wasn't that packed!! We started making friends with the people that were in line with us and we were looking at BSB magazines. Well then the mall starts getting packed. Suddenly time had flown and it felt like we were in a can of sardines. Girls were fighting over who was in front of who and who was pushing who--it was awful.
It was now 12:30 and everyone started standing up and chanting their songs and yelling when the TV cameras would pass us and pushing like crazy. By the time 2:00pm came around the boys weren't there and the rumours were flying. Everyone was saying that the guys weren't coming out and then they got more upset so they would yell louder and push harder. I had never felt this way before. Every girl in the line had sweat dripping from there heads and it really started to smell bad. People were being taken away because of heat exhaustion and mothers were sending announcements over the speaker system that they had lost their children. It was now 3 and the guys were still not there, people were losing hope and others were crying. Two of my friends couldn't handle it anymore (you literally could not move your arms or legs). They heard that the session was canceled and decided they wanted to leave.
Well my other friends and I were not about to leave we had been there all day!! So our other friends left to wait for us in the bathroom! About ten minutes later my other friends and I were about to leave when over an hour and a half late the annoucement came over the speakers, "do to security reasons the boys have been moved to the congress center" (another place in the mall). Everyone started pushing trying to get over there and it was crazy. All the barriers got knocked down and there weren't enough security guards, so they ended up calling in the riot squad.
They put up barriers again and had a doorway leading in to the congress center and were taking in small groups at a time. All of a sudden one of my friends got grabbed when I was trying to get something out of her bag on her back. One of the BSB bodyguards escorted her to the entrance of where the guys were and she got to go in.. Now we had lost 3 of our friends and I wasn't about to lose my last friend I held on to her as tight as I could. We were at the front of the line when they put the barriers up in a different way and we had to go to the back of the line. When I thought of how long we had been there and that one of my other friends had got in, I couldn't stand to not go in, so I grabbed my friend's hand and pulled her under the barrier with me. All the security guards just looked at me.When we were standing in the line yhe girls in front of us told us to go in front of them because they had already been in,When they let us in the room it was VERY quiet compared to out there and they told us that we couldn't get autographs or pictures we could only shake hands. Then we kindof figured out that we were the last group that was aloud in,(there was only six of us and the doors had been shut) I couldn't believe it. Then I saw the guys!!!!!
I was so shocked--there they were right there in front of me, WOW!!!!! I was going to ask for a picture but their bodyguards were staring at us (there was only 6 of us) and their moms were also looking at us so I was too shy so i chickened out. But, I shook all of their hands and talked to each of them a bit.
We found out later that they had asked out other friend if she was skipping school and she told them yes and A.J. said hey shhhhh the TV cameras are right behind you. It was all worth it.When I shook Kevin's I had just said to my friend I can't belive that we are here in front of them and Kevin heard me and said,"Shocking eh??"I shook my head and went on to AJ his hands were very rough and you could feel all the rings on them..I said hi to him and he said it back next was Hoiwe his hands were soft he winked and said "hey" and than my fav guy!! Brian I shook his hand and said hi but at first he wasn't looking and because the way the line was being held up in front of me I couldn't move so I just held on to his hand and kind said something I didn't mean and he turned around and his eyes were open REAL wide and they were real blue and he gave me a huge smile!!!I was sooo happy!! Than it was the last guy Nick I shook his hand (which I found was a little bony) and said a quick hi!!
Later that night when I watched the news with my friends (yes I found all of them) we found out that they had only expected 2000 people there and 5000 showed up so they were under secured. And out of 5000 people only 200 got to meet them!! I felt pretty special but I heard cause of that they have canceled autograph sesions now!! Sorry Guys!!
LAURA'S ENCOUNTER WITH THE BOYS!!!
This is a True Story
In March this year(1997) the BSBs came to Ottawa. I was really excited and had entered so many contests to try to meet them and get front row tickets. I had spent a lot of money on them and continue to do so without thinking. I was going to be on the first level at their second concert in that visit. I had finally almost given up hoping that I'd meet them this time. I was really upset and depressed because I got could never win anything or get things to go in my favor. I found out a couple of weeks before they were to arrive that they would be having an autograph signing at on of the malls. My dad worked down the street from the mall so I had him check out the advertisement to make sure they would really be there. They didn't have much advertisement so my friends and I kept it to ourselves.
We arrived at the mall 6 hours before they would be there and we didn't expect many people. The security guards had expected about 2000 people to show up because it was a school day and they wuld have to skip school. There were a lot more people than we expected when we arrive. However we were still told that because of where we were, we were still eligeable to meet them. There turned out to be almost 3 times as many people as they had expected, there was about 6000 people crowded in one little area of the mall. The french TV stations had advertised it on the news the night before when they weren't supposed to. There were a lot of people from Quebec there. They boys' bodyguards came out to see how many people there were and my friend followed them but then she lost them. The boys were to appear at 2:00pm and didn't show until 4:00pm. I had a sprained knee and I was in a lot of pain (I had decided not to bring crutches; man was I stupid!) but I still had to try and stand in the crowd from around 12:00pm until we left. There were roumors flying that there were too many people and it was too risky so they might have to cancel. These roumors flyed for hours. My friends and I talked to security guards and police officers but no one knew what was happening. They ended up calling in the riot squad. I didn't expect to see my uncle there, but because he was a police officer, he was there.
At around 3:45pm my friends and I were about to give up. We left the line just as they were saying that the boys were moved somewhere else in the mall. They said move calm and we'll take you there. Of course my friends and I pushed back into the line where we were before because we had made friends with the other girls there. Many people tried to take a short cut but ended up not getting in. My bestfriend was trying to get a letter my sister had written out of my sister's bag when they were letting us in. My sister thought my friend was still holding on to the bag but a buch of girls pushed in from the sides and then the guard stopped the line. I was so afraid we'd lose my older sister that I started crying, shaking and yeling at the guard for not letting us in. My friend was holding my wrist really tight by then, telling me to calm down, when a camera man from the news needed to go between us. She wanted me to pull up beside her but I was right beside the guard and rail so I made her let go of me. She quickly grabbed my arm again because we weren't about to lose eachother. We had already lost my sister, and two of our friends, who had left ahead of us right before we got out of line because they had given up and went to the washroom to wait for us. When the guards started taking people from the back of the crowd people were ducking under the rails to get into line right beside the guards. My friend told me to but I was right beside the guard that I had told that he let my sister in and we need to get in to find her. My friend pulled in behind me and ducked under the rail, still holding on to my arm. I finally decided I had to go uder or I would lose her too, and the guard didn't mind. Just before we went in the 2 girls infront of us told us to go ahead because they had already been in once. I think the guards heard them because the line stopped for a big gap behind us. We were the last or one of the last groups in. We were told we could only shake their hands and give them what we brought for them. I didn't hear much of what my friend said to me so she repeated everything to me after. When we were getting close to the boys my friend was like "Can you believe we are right infront of them?!!!" She said that right infront of Kevin and he said "Shocking, isn't it?!" She was like "Yeah! I know!" I didn't even really hear much of that so I had to be told about it. When they were talking, I was shaking Kevin's hand and looking to see where Nick was sitting. Of course, he was at the end! It happened so quick that it's hard to remember everything. When I reached Nick, I handed him a cute card and a letter in an evelope which I had drawn on. Nick moved very slow and it was weird. First he looked at the evelope as he put it down, then he looked up at me smiling. When I put out my hand to shake his, he reached forward and shook my fingures gently just like a gentleman would. He smiled at me and sat his shades ano his nose because his eyes were wide open, staring over the shades and right at my eyes (I figure he was wondering if I have any puples because my eyes are so dark brown that the are almost black). By that time my long light, brown, blond hair wasn't as neat as earlier so I felt stupid. I had also gotten a girl to write I LOVE NICK on my right hand but I don't think he saw it when he shook that hand (I'm hoping). Nick took so long that the guard looked at me and said "Don't slow down the line!" I looked at him quickly and then walked away. Just as I turned around away from Nick though, he directed an expression towards me that said "Don't worry about it!" I missed that face and my friend and I couldn't believe that I had when she was talking about it and I had no idea what she was talking about. If only I had seen it!!! What would have happened?!! Also while Nick and I were doing this my friend was shaking Brian's hand (she likes him) and her hand shake said a little more than she had planned!!! My sister told me that she told Nick her sister said hi just incase I didn't make it in and that he looked at her weird when she said that, so she though he was stuck up that day, but he was sweet to me so I don't know what she was taking about!!! Nick was a little weird that day. He moved so slow that he looked like a robot. But he was still cute and all of the guys have nice hand shakes and soft hands! Well I'll be in the 3rd row at this concert in Jan.98 so I'm hoping to meet them again! I'll let you know what happens! From Laura Marie in Canada!
