Backstreet Boys: Bedtime Stories

-Bop Magazine ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brian Littrell, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough and Kevin Richardson tell you about a very personal and private segment of their day-bedtime.

Mention the word sleep to the Backstreet Boys and they all suggest that they could use a few more Z's during the night.

"I like to get 12 hours," Howie told us. "But I normally get between six and eight hours depending how hectic our schedule is.I can sleep for 12 hours, though, no problem."

Howie's not the only member who prefers more than the recommended eight hours of snooze time.Nick, 16, says that he always tries to get more that that amount. If he dosen't, he starts to get a little stressed.

"I am very strict on how many hours I get," he told us."I actually panic like when it is under eight hours. When we do a long show and I have an early wake up call I'm like, 'Oh my God!They're cutting into my hours,'"

Although Kevin and Brian don't go into panic mode when they can't rack up enough Z's, they get irritated when their travel schedule and accommodations mess with their bedtime.

"I average only about five or six hours of sleep[a night when we're on the road],"admits 24-year-old Kevin,"because after a show, it's hard just to come back and go to bed because you are so wound up.I usually end up flipping through the TV channels for like an hour or two before I go to bed."

"I miss my bed[at home],"adds Brian,22."Being on the road is very hectic. It is hotel after hotel and the beds[in parst of Europe] are different. They have those weird comforters. It's like,'Hey!Where's the sheet?"

Fortunately, when the guys can't get a good night's sleep they're all able to catnap-especially Howie.

"The guys always tease me because I can sleep just sitting down,"the 22-year-old admits."If I'm relaxing and I'm a little comfortable and my body tempreture is a little warm I can just fall asleep."

The only Backstreet Boy who dosen't seem to have a problem with getting enough shut-eye is 19-year-old A.J. As he told us, " I need a minimum of five hours of sleep and I average about nime or ten when I'm on the read because I don't go out.I don't know where to go.But when I'm at home, I stay up late and go out and stuff."
