Allman Brothers Band
26 August 1970 - unknown venue in Miami Beach, Florida, USA
Eric Clapton attends The Allman Brothers concert.
This was the show where Eric Clapton first saw them play.
At this time, the Allman Bros. Band had their self-titled first album out for almost a year
(THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND - November 1969) and their second album was set for imminent release
(IDLEWILD SOUTH - September 1970). IDLEWILD SOUTH was recorded in part at Miami's Atlantic South-Criteria Studios using producer Tom Dowd and engineers Ron & Howie Albert (same as
LAYLA).
Typical setlist from that tour -
17 July 1970; Love Valley Festival, Love Valley, North Carolina, USA:
"RealAudio file interview: Ed Shane hosted Duane Allman in 1970 on a one hour radio broadcast he called "The Duane Allman Hour" (it was a one-time event). Duane talks about life, music, Clapton, forming the Allman Brothers, the first two albums, and many other things...

CD Now
Studying the photographs inside the fold-out sleeve makes
you question how such a wrecked bunch of musos could make
such a great record. Excess was obviously the order of the day,
yet excel was what they did. Everybody knows that "Layla" is
one of the best rock songs ever written, but here is the chance
to strike a blow for Duane Allman's consistent guitar,
especially on lost gems such as "Anyday" and "Key To The
Highway". Did anybody also notice how good Jim Gordon's
drumming was? And the CD age means we can skip past the
dreadful "Thorn Tree In The Garden".

CD Now
This box set was digitally remixed and
remastered by Bill Levenson and Steve Rinkoff at The Power
Station, New York from May to June 1990. Includes a
16-page booklet with session notes, annotations and an essay
by Gene Santoro.
By digitally remixing and remastering these sessions, the
producers have resurrected one of Clapton's greatest
achievements, his instrumental and songwriting peak.
Musically, Clapton was inspired by his new rhythm section
and challenged by fellow guitar hero Duane Allman, whose
torrid slide guitar makes blues blasts like "Nobody Knows You
When You're Down And Out" and "Key To The Highway" so
compelling. And from the classic title song (with drummer
Jim Gordon's famous piano coda), to rivetting performances
of "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad," Hendrix's "Little
Wing" and Billy Myles "Have You Ever Loved A Woman,"
each and every metaphor is etched in blood and longing,
framed in wailing guitars.
Disc 1 is the legendary LAYLA double-LP. The jams which
comprise disc 2 illustrate the evolution of the session, while
the alternate masters, jams and outtakes on disc 3 will
certainly be of interest to casual fans and completists alike.
All in all, few rock albums from this era have the staying
power and poetic immediacy of LAYLA.

Leaving the audience, Eric Clapton joined his old friends Buddy Guy & Junior Wells for one song during their opening set for The Rolling Stones 1970 European Tour. He did not join the Stones for any of their set unfortunately.
This was broadcast on French radio.
This song can be found on the album
BLIND DOMINOES - Blind Faith/Derek & The Dominos.
The next month at Miami's Criteria Studios, Eric sat in with them on
their Atlantic album
PLAY THE BLUES - Buddy Guy & Junior Wells
N.B. - It's Only Rock 'N' Roll lists this song as 'Money'. Maybe this song was also performed (but not with Eric Clapton's help).
Also, this is not a CD. I have not yet found a recording of this concert (either the opening or main act). If someone has, PLEASE email
me!
