The Answers!
Here are the answers to the questions on the previous page:
Easy:
1. Don Mattingly, the Yankee captain. He retired the year before the 1996 Yankees won the world series in come-from-behind style. Although he could have still been a first-class first-bagger, and was always a first class ballplayer, he left because his back did. I hope he'll be able to come back and earn a ring as a coach.
2. Mark MgGuire won (surprise, surprise) the Rookie Record for Home Runs with 49.
3. The other members of the 800-club, of which Yankee Tim Raines joined just this year, are Rickey Henderson, Lou Brock, and Ty Cobb.
4. The highest fielding percentage is at first base. Steve Garvey, Wes Parker, and Don Mattingly share the highest fielding percentage of all-time at .996.
5. Who else? Babe Ruth. (.690)
Medium:
1. Bob Welch won 100 games in each league.
2. Rollie Fingers.
3. Toronto Blue Jay's George Bell.
4. Mike Schmidt
5. Ex-met and now heroic yankee...Daryl Strawberry!
Tough:
1. The first DH in major league history was Ron Blomberg, a New York Yankee. The first game in which a DH was used was April 6th, 1973.
2. Cy Young pitched 749 complete games, an all-time best.
3. The Atlanta Braves won the pennant in 1991 after finishing with a winning percentage of around .400 the year before.
4. Mike Scott's no-hitter was the only no-hitter in NL history to clinch a pennant or division title.
5. Their overall record was a 86-66, good for fourth place.
So, how did you do? If you beat the easy section, score yourself a Ricky Ledee. If you beat the middle section, you're a Graeme Lloyd, or maybe even a Shane Spencer. If you beat the tought section, score yourself a PAUL O'NEILL!!!!!
