"What?!"she demanded look at her mom increduously.
"We're moving hun."
"It's for the best with all that's happened,"she rushed on as Britt started to protest.
"Maybe for you but not for me! I'm not moving! All my friends are here! I can't just leave Jenny and Hope and all my friends behind! What about Shawn??? I'll never ever see him again!"she yelled angrily.
"It's for the best," her mom repeated quietly.
Brittany sniffed. "Not for me," she replied then ran outside crying.
Anne sat down and looked around the room. "I'm sure she'll like it. After she gets there she'll like it,"she told everyone in the room. *********************************
Brittany put her last bag in the car and looked at her house one last time. She felt her eyes start to water and wiped the tears away quickly. Crying hadn't done any good even though she'd cried buckets trying to get her way. Her mom had put her foot down though. So, here she was on her way to Ok. The name is even stupid she thought. Oklahoma. How stupid. Georgia was a good name. The peach state. The only good thing Oklahoma had going for it was Hanson and that didn't do her any good. Like she'd ever see them.
Her mom came out and locked the door. "Ready to go?"she asked. "No," Brittany muttered. "What sweetie? "Yeah,"she replied. "Great!"Anne said smiling enthusiastically. Brittany just started at her, then got in the car. I guess I'll never get to see daddy now she thought. her parents had gotten a divorce when she was 8 and she guessed now she'd never get to see her dad. She made a face at her mom when she looked out the window. They were following her aunt and uncle and she giggled when uncle Steve almost hit a car. It was a family joke about what a wreckless driver he was. She turned the radio on and then put in her Cumbawamba c.d and listened to Tubthumping. She didn't like any other song on the album but Tubthumping and she quickly got sick of that and put in Hanson. She liked all the songs on there!
She listened to "I Will Come To You" first since that was her favorite song. Then she listened to Man From Milluake and then she started the whole c.d over and listened to every song.
They drove stright though making several stops along the way to get a drink, eat and go to the bathroom. Finally at 3:00 a.m they got there. Brittany got out and stretched then looked at the house for the first time. It was really pretty. It was a blue, tri level house trimmed in off white. It had 4 bedrooms and 3½ baths. She couldn't figure out why the needed a house that big. They were staying with Uncle Steve and Aunt Sandy tonight and they were moving their stuff in bright and early tomorrow morning. She walked next door to Sandy and Steve's house. She was tired and she just wanted to go to sleep.
Brittany went downstairs and put her favorite green pjs on and climbed into bed. As sleep as she was it was about 45 minutes before she drifted off to sleep. That night she a weird dream that her mom got married again. She woke up the next morning and thought about. She smiled to herself. What a stupid dream.
She took a shower and put on her favorite jeans and a little gray Levi's shirt. She slipped her socks and her Nikes on and went upstairs.
Nobody was in the house. Hmmm she thought to herself. They must be at the house already. She went out on the balcony and looked over in their yard and saw her mom hugging a man that used to friends with her dad before he got transferred to another job. She hadn't seen Mac in forever! "Hey Mac!"she yelled. He smiled. "This lady couldn't be little Brittany!" he said smiling. "Get over here and give me a hug!" he commanded grining.
She went down the steps and ran over and gave him a big hug. "So how did you know we were moving here?" she asked. He looked at Anne.
