Glamour Queen
|
In 1995, Courtney Love got a small acting role in a Keanu Reeves movie called “Feeling Minnesota.” In 1996, Courtney got an even bigger movie role in “The People Vs. Larry Flynt.” She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her acting skills in “The People Vs. Larry Flynt.” Before she could act in the movie, Courtney had to take drug tests to prove she was clean. She passed them all. Courtney had kicked her drug habit. More recently, Courtney Love is in a movie that was released this year, 1999, called “200 Cigarettes.” And later this year she will appear in a Jim Carrey movie titled “Man on the Moon.” Courtney Love’s transformation from grunge goddess to glamour goddess has been one of the most talked about celebrity makeovers. “I see Courtney Love as a chameleon,” said a substance abuse counsellor, Michael Ryan to Spin magazine. “And the Versace world probably looked like a better train ride than the one she was on. But who can blame her? She’ a great show person and a great manipulator, and I admire the drive. If it would get her out of Seattle-get me a gown and I’ll make millions. Who wouldn’t? Well, Kurt Cobain wouldn’t.” |
Courtney Love is no longer the spokes person for angry young women that she once was. Many Hole fans feel betrayed by the new Courtney, because she seems to be going against everything she once spoke out against. And Courtney somewhat agrees as well. She said in a October 1998 issue of Spin that she feels she has betrayed that part of herself by “getting married. By being romantic. By falling in love. I walked off from my past.” On the other hand, it could just be personal growth. Courtney is mature. “Sometimes I hate myself for it. Sometimes I get really angry. I think about all the hard divas that I met that have hard hearts and didn’t fall for the boys…..I have a boyfriend. He’s magnificent. I wrote some incredible songs about him. I don’t think I’ve ever had a boyfriend quite as great as this boyfriend, an incredible noble brilliant human being who has inspired me to learn so much. But I’m not going to serve him up for everyone to slice up and emasculate. I will never ever let that happen to man again.” (Spin magazine) She let that happen to her last husband, Kurt. “I didn’t serve (Kurt) up on purpose, but I wasn’t hiding it either. I got married. There it was. Big, bold, punk rock, black and white. I didn’t know, and I’m an idiot and I should have known.” (Spin Magazine) Despite Courtney’s shady past, it appears that today she has everything she has ever wanted. She is off drugs, she is beautiful (thanks to plastic surgery), she is in a stable relationship for once, and she is a successful actress and musician who has proved her abilities. She is rich, glamorous, and powerful. And some people actually like her now. |
