Five Kingdoms and Cells Unit Guidelines

Five Kingdoms
1. Plants: List the common and/or scientific names of at least 8 main plants in your biome. Be specific as to type. It is NOT enough to simply write "tree" or even "pine tree." You must find specific names, such as "pinion pine tree."
2. Animals: List the common and/or scientific names of at least 10 animals in your biome. In that list, you must include: at least 3 mammals, at least 3 birds, and at least four, in any combination, chosen from fish, amphibians, reptiles and insects.
3. Fungi/protozoa/bacteria: at least 1 each. You should be able to find specific fungi for your biome (for example, types of mushrooms) but you may need to give the names of generalized bacteria and protozoan (for example--bacteria found in soils, a protozoan found in water)
4. Choose 4 of your plants and 5 of your animals to explore more in depth. Include pictures of each (hand drawn or copied from the Internet, books or magazines) and a short paragraph describing the plant or animal's main characteristics, where it lives within the biome (under ground? in a tree?) and what special adaptations it has that make it compatible with the biome.

Cells
Draw a typical animal and a typical plant cell to include in your project. Show the major organelles in both. Click on the link text for each cell type for help with the cells. Remember--you must DRAW YOUR OWN CELL. Do NOT copy the picture from the Internet.
For the Animal Cellinclude:
cell membrane
nucleus
nucleolus
chromosomes (2)
Smooth ER
Rough ER with ribosomes
Golgi Apparatus
vacuole
mitochondria (3)
lysosome

For the Plant Cellinclude:
cell wall
chloroplasts
cell membrane
nucleus
nucleolus
chromosomes (2)
Smooth ER
Rough ER with ribosomes
Golgi Apparatus
vacuole
mitochondria (3)
