Catlin was once a slave in Gar's court, but managed to escape. Almost caught by Gar's men, she waded across a river, and was suddenly caught, when Conor came out of nowhere and intervened. She escaped to the woods as Conor fought her pursuers (Conor, by the way, had to be rescued from that predicament by Fergus), and later they met up again when Conor arrived at The Sanctuary. A fierce fighter and deadly archer, Catlin proves to be an asset to the team on more than one occassion.
Catlin's history is vague at best. At age 7, her father walked out on his wife and daughter, and Catlin's mother died a year later. She was taken in by an older man (there is no mention of whether this is as a girl or later in life), who betrayed her trust and sold her as a slave to the Romans. There also appears to have been sexual abuse at some point in Catlin's past. Though her luck in past relationships seemed not at all good, she has found friends at Sanctuary, and seems to hold a special place in her heart for Conor. Whether those feelings are platonic or romantic is, at this point, merely conjecture. On a religious note, Catlin is the only Christian among the Celts, and has had contacts (namely Anturus) in the Roman court. In "Red Boot", Catlin's beliefs are revealed when she tries to protect a sacred Christian scroll from those who would cover the truth about Christ's death. It is unknown whether Catlin was converted as a child or as a Roman prisoner, or raised Christian by her parents.
