The champion of Conor's tribe, Fergus carries a heavy weight: he should have been there to protect his tribe the night Gar's men attacked, but he had been drunk, and passed out in the cellar on his way to get more ale. The sole survivor of the attack, Fergus now swears his allegiance to the son of his king, serving as Conor's military advisor and trusted friend. Since Conor was a boy, Fergus has been his guardian and protector, often stepping in to save his hide when Conor would prefer that he didn't. When asked by Conor why he always follows him around, Fergus replied, "You father said it was you or the sheep. The sheep were already taken." A fierce warrior, Fergus is never reluctant to enter a battle . . . but is also very prudent about which ones to fight.
As a young man, Fergus had a wife and young daughter, but was forever pulled by wanderlust. He was not there when that village was attacked. Apparently, his wife lives and his daughter survived the attack by hiding in a peach tree. When next Fergus encounters her (in "Doyle's Solution") she is a grown woman. His daughter, Molly, comes to forgive her father for never being home, for walking out on them, but is pulled by a wanderlust of her own and leaves the Sanctuary to explore the island. There is no further mention of Molly's mother.
