We've all bowled by their first two singles, 'I'll Be There For You' and 'Miss You Like Crazy', and their record company has promised that their album will be released this month!
So, while we're waiting, let's find out more about these brothers shall we? ( CT got on the line with the so lucky reporter!) First things first, they're not like Hanson at all! Call The Moffatts the 'Canadian Hanson' and you'd probably get erased right out of their good books.
Over our ultra-long distance line, CT put the facts right. "I think they compare us to Hanson because we're brothers. But Oasis and Van Halen, they're brothers and they're in a band. (thinks a bit) Y'know, there're so many brother acts, I don't understand why people are always comparing us to them only. Maybe it's our age. But as a band, and as singers, we're pretty different," said the brotherly band's bass player.
How it all began...The four brothers have been singing since they were young---like three or four!---and performed their first gig because of their grandfather! "It was in a mall and we were in a record shop. We recorded a songs for our Gramps as a Christmas presents. It was a song that The Jetts sang called 'Grandpa'. That was the first song we ever sang in public," CT let on.
Even then, their audiences must have been as taken by their music as we are now! You'll probably be able to figure out their musical preferences from their music, but just in case, lets hear it from the horse's mouth, huh?
"We like sliverchair, Nirvana, Bush, and R&B like Boyz II Men. We take a lot of different styles of music and create something new so that people don't get tired of our music," explained Clint.
When they go onstage... You know that they're a real 'together' band not just because they're family, but also because everyone gets a chance to shine! "We all sing, in concerts we take turns singing the leads. We do this for any song, it doesn't really matter. Our mother was a singer and she won a couple of awards in Canada so we grew up listening to music and doing music."
Their philosophy The best way to know your fave pop moppets well is to understand their inner psyche. If that sounds a little complicated, don't worry. The ever-efficient MAX Towers staff have tuned their pop antenna to the Moffatt station, and this is what we found out--The Moffatts aren't a copycat band.
Instead of trying to sound like someone they admire, they've put it upon their shoulders to try to create their own uniquely "Moffattian" sound!
In CT's very own words, "we are trying to create something new. Just starting, trying to make it in the music business, playing music that the fans know of and they've heard. And I guess later on in our musical career we'll try to invent music like The Beatles did.
They invented their music. As far as right now we're trying to play music that everyone will enjoy."
That's a real good philosophy to live by, if I may say so myself! So, apart from blood being thinker than water and playing in the same band, what is it that links these four Moffatts together? Clint said: "Well, we're all very much different. Bob is the only one in the family who's really laid-back. Dave is very talkative, he'd talk to anybody. He walks on the street and he'll start up a conversation with somebody. People say that I work pretty hard at what I do. And Scott's a very type A person and very creative. But we're all very much unique and different in every way." That's probably what keeps them working and sounding so well together--different personalities coagulating into a harmonious whole.
Girls!~Girls!~Girls!~ Always an ultra-sensitive topic with any group consisting of totally gorge dudes, but oh-so-important and don't we all want to know anyway? Which Spice Girl would you want to date? "Well, we watched the 'Stop' video and they look very very beautiful right now. But Victoria's my favourite. What would you do on a date with her? I'd be nice to her, buy her gifts and flowers and take her out to dinner, a movie. but I've only just turned 14 and she's 23 or something." (Awwww...)
Who would be your little Miss Moffatt?
"Jenny McCarthy. It's not like it'd ever happen that we have a relationship, but the girl that I look at and I think like "she's beautiful" would be Jenny McCarthy."
What kind of qualities do you like in a girl?
"Of course she's got to be a nice person. If we're always on tour, we don't get to see her very often, she's not gonna really you know, get so upset that things can't work out in the relationship. But I think, niceness as a quality would be one of the most important in a relationship." ,p>The Distinguishing Factor: HAIR! Which Moffatt is which? CT tells us. "Oh, we have our hairdos. Our hairdos are totally different. Everyone has his own style so that people can actually tell us apart. Scott has medium length hair with blonde streaks. Dave has short brown hair, little short bangs, it's like a nice hairdo kind of thing. And Bob's is long, goes down to his shoulders, and his bangs are really long. My hair is shaded with a little blonde streak in front.
