The Spring of 1999 saw the Guild producing three new, unpublished plays . Not only was doing so a wonderful opportunity to give to students and faculty, it was also a good chance to extend our resources to those outside the CSUN Department of Theatre.
The first production of the Spring, "Shelter," was a play by graduate student Erica Paley-Stevens. It was the first original play the Guild had mounted in its current incarnation. Besides working with new material, the Guild also brought in a guest director and sound designer.
The second and third plays were produced and ran together. "The Pool" was a new one-act piece by CSUN Computer Engineering professor Melvin Epstein. It's companion one-act was "Hell's Kitchen," an off-beat comedy by theatre major Jeff Wienckowski. Both one-acts dealt with existential issues, such as religion and the afterlife, making them a likely couple to put together.
