Darren Mccarty was born April 1st 1972. Father Craig McCarty and Mother Roberta McCarty lived in Burnaby British Columbia. After Darren was born they moved to Leamington Onterio. Darren spent most of his childhood there. He became a hockey fan early.
After all,he did live in Canada. Darren played on a Minor League Baseball team in Leamington.
(seen here) Because of his love of sports he played hockey also. He had become a great player with the same love for the game and dream as most little hockey players had. Little did he know,that love would bring him that dream!(Twice) He played in the OHL for the Belleville Bulls.
(seen here) He wore #19. Then something happened that brought him one step closer to living his dream. He was drafted by Detroit in 1992.He played for Detroit in 1993-1994. He took on the role of the enforcer. He became a big part of the team. Darren had won himself a place in every Red Wing fan's heart. Through the years he became more than a tough guy. He scored many important goals. (Including th cup clinching goal in 1997's game 4 sweep,for Detroit's first Stanley Cup in 42 years!) He had a season high of 19 goals in 97. He was an important part in the Wing's depth that made them a dinasty. His penalty minutes went down and his numbers went up.It seemed as if his life had taken a turn for the good.
A couple years ago,Darren got the sad news that his father was diagnosed with a form of bone marrow cancer called Multiple Myoloma. Darren knew that he could get people to rally around him. So he started a foundation to find the cure for the cancer. It worked. He did it for his hero. Darren is married to Cheryl McCarty and together they have a 2 year old son named Griffen.They also recently had a girl and named her Emerson. Darren has done much with his life. He owns a restaraunt business called "Little Daddy's" He named after the Wings favorite restaraunt "Big Daddy's" He is a part time DJ at the 97.1 K-ROCK station. He does a show called Mac and Millen. Not to mention he is rock star. He is the lead singer for the band GRINDER.
They have a hit song called "Step Outside" Darren has made the band a big sucess all around Detroit with the song he wrote himself. He saved that sucess for charities. All the proceeds of the cd go to the Vladamir Konstantinov Fund. He is very active in charities. It means a lot to him. He is a good man. He fought threw alchohlism and made it this far.
