I am reproducing this page with the permission of sfot.net and Alan Reynolds. Alan originally activated this to collect comments from fans of The Spee-Lunker Cave and sent the first 150 comments to Steve Calloway, General Manager of Six Flags Over Texas, as a petition to return The Cave back to the park for it's 40th anniversary. As many of you know, The Cave was removed in 1991. This petition was started in 1998 and as you can see below, fans of this weird and wonderful darkride still have strong feelings against it's removal. Calloway was touched by the comments but made no promises for the ride's return. As expected, Six Flags had no interest in resurrecting The Cave.
This petition was active until September 2002 when I guess, allocated space was used up and no more comments could be posted. Eventually, the hosting service had a "melt-down", causing this page to disappear. I had saved the most current page and Alan is in the process of re-building his original "SFOT Former Employees' Contact Page". This most recent page grew to more than 400 comments. I have decided to resurrect this page for all to view, though it is no longer active for new postings here. The comments range from profound to touching to funny. They are serious, cynical and humorous. So, here is the original petition for your viewing:
Does it concern you that the Spee-Lunkers are out of a job? Is it right that they have been taken from their home and replaced by some Warner Brothers characters whom have no clue about caves or Speelunking in general? Do you miss the cheap black light and strobe effects of that cave? How about the great erie sounds and music? We are here to help get the Spee-Lunkers back to Six Flags over Texas and need your help too.
The Spee-Lunkers would love it if you signed their petition.
The petition was sent with over 150 comments. I've talked to Steve Calloway, the General Manager of the park. He has read our petition and was very impressed by a number of the comments, and the feelings expressed. For the 40th anniversary of the park (2001) they would like to do some retro things to the park. He was very unclear whether the cave or similar rides would be brought back to life though.
Stay tuned.
This was my absolute favorite ride for a long time. Ever since Six Flags got rid of
that attraction, that park has not been the same since, so I have not been back as many
times. PLEASE bring back this classic!!!! (The riverboat ride, treehouse, and volcano
would be nice to have back to.)

Our family vacations growing up was going to Six Flags and one of our fondest memories
is The Cave. My mom and sister did not like the scarey rides and so this is one of the
main rides that all of us could enjoy along with the "La Salle's River Boat
Ride". We just went to Six Flags and were talking about this. They have taken these
rides out so there is not many reasons for anyone to go unless they like scary rides. We
do miss this and wish it would return. Good job at recreating this! It brings back good

park had done to our beloved speelunkers. We stood in line to see if it was remotely
similiar to the speelunkers. LAME!!! Everywhere you look at SFOT you see bugs bunny. They

Hey, I need some help from you Six Flags employees (or Cave fans) from the 1960’s.
I have documented the 1960’s version of The Cave including producing an audio
ride-through soundtrack. There is a little bit of confusion. A more recent map of The Cave
shows the jail (brig) scene just after you enter the hull of the wrecked ship, then the
rocking timbers. I can almost distinctly remember after you went into the hull it was the
rocking timbers, then the jail scene, then a turn to the left and the “rotating
barrel”. Let’s hear your recollection!

The cave was one of the most unique attractions around. Unlike the milktoasty, pablum,
corporate characters of today, the Spee-lunkers left an indelible memory to millions of
park visitors for the thirty-some odd years it was in operation. This ride helped set SFOT
apart from all other theme parks. I am confident if SFOT's parent company replaced the
Warner Bros. cartoon characters ride to the original "T he Cav e", People would

I was 6 or 7 the first time I went to SFOT in the late 60's or early 70's. I have these
indelible images in my mind of Skull Island and the wonderful tree slides. I remember the
Flume with the evil villian and the lumberjack. I loved LaSalles. The spiel was cheesy but
always funny, and besides the ride fueled our imaginations and gave us a sense of
adventure. There is not a roller-coaster or a river rapids ride ever built that can do
that. "The Cave" was such a wonderful ride. My local cable provider gives us the
Cartoon Network and with 3 small children I get to share the Looney-toons characters of my
youth. Please let me share the Speelunkers with them. While your at it, how about the rest
of the attractions that made SFOT unique.

I have just returned from a secret (oops !) meeting of The Grand Speelunker Council.
AFter hearing from The Nutria Nation that their plans are near fruition, we asked Mistress
Cleo Speelunker to consult with Mr. Wynne's Spirit. After charging us 2.95 a minute (we
got the first minute free), Mistress Cleo informed us that indeed she had spoken with Mr.
Wynne, and he had this to say..... "I am ashamed and embarassed at what has happened
to my creation. The incredible hubris of AOL Time Warner and the pillaging of Six Flags
Over TEXAS's traditions are a disgrace. Had I known the Speelunkers would be packed up and
shipped off to Longhorn Caverns, I would never have sold to those evil cretins. Please do
all you can to restore the dream. Go find Cyrus Cosmo....he is the one to lead The
Revolution. p.s. No one ever died on Lasalle's Riverboat !" Well, after that we were
resolved to The Revolution. But first, we need to know who's with us. Sign up and let us
know if we can count on you. We'll be watching ! (and hopefully, so will Wall Street) Run
over a Possum today !

To Hell with the Speelunkers ! They should be grateful Warner Bros. let them stay

on....shameful ! And the world will be a much better place if we never have to hear
"Coal Miner's Daughter" or "Two Doors Down" again ! That damn Dolly
Speelunker and her fake boobies ! The last straw was when my cousin Playne Possum got

Most of you don't realize it yet, but The Spelunkers will return. We have been working
with them covertly to plan the takeover. We have loaded Yosimite Sam's gun with blanks. We
have added Xanax to that fleabag Bugs' carrot. We have been feeding Mr. Gonzales burritos
from Casa Banderas, so he'll be making a "Speedy" trip to El Bano shortly. All
is almost ready, we only have to dispose of the traitorous Possums, who have sold out to
AOL Time Warner in the vain hope of getting a possum cartoon character. We the Nutria
Nation would like to thank our exiled friends from Seven Seas/Hawaii Kai and former Texas
Rangers Billy Sample and Johnny Grubb for their help in restoring Arlington to its former
grand self.

I returned to Six Flags after 20 years last December. While growing up with them during
the 60s and 70s, the Spee-Lunkers have become a unique symbol of Six Flags. After being
terrified the first time I visited their cave, I learned to really love the little guys.
It seems that six flags sold its soul to trade marks and mass marketing when they
fumigated them from their cave. I know there are many who hoped someday to share the
Spee-Lunkers with their families. All the parks on the east coast Bush Gardens, Kings
dominion, and Carrowinds all have Bugs, and I'm darned sick of him. If Six Flags really
wants to seperate itself from the rest, and resume its own unique identity it once had,
not to mention satisfy a cult following, they will bring back the Spee- Lunkers. Long live
the Cave!!

As a kid, I always loved this ride. I think this was one of the best themed rides ever.
The whole concept was great and the spelunkers were so cute and on a hot summer day the
coolness of the ride was such a relief. I am a former employee, and I believe I had worked
at Six Flags one year when they changed the concept of the ride from the spelunkers to the
looney tunes theme. The ride was still a good one, I guess, but it was not one-tenth as
good as the spelunkers. It really bothered me to see them change it. Please bring Six

Spee-Lunkers Cave was one of the best rides, not only could it be cozy for couples, but
it was one of the places that was cool during the summer time. I just loved those little
spee-lunkers guys in the cave. They were so cute and should be brought back to life again.
Who cares about the Looney Toons guys...hum maybe there should be a cartoon about the
Spee-Lunkers. Someone send that to Warner Brothers...they should do that then Six Flags
would have their own cartoon and charatures, that could be brought to life like daffy and
Bugs have been. I know I would like walking around as a Spee-Lunker in the park!!!

I remember being horrified of the Spee-Lunkers the first time I rode that ride in the

sunk one of the boats on the ride around that same time. As I grew up, I remember enjoying
the ride on those hot summer days. I have to admit that I haven't been to SFOT in over 20

Well, it does not look like Six Flags is going to bring back the Speelunker's Cave. And
when I think about the other wonderful old Six Flags with it's creative theming, sense of
adventure and the magic atmosphere, the refreshing escape from the daily pressures of
life, it makes me think; What if an investor with vision came along and opened another
REAL theme park in the Six Flags market, forever closing the oportunity for Six Flags to
do so? Anyone out there see the opportunity? Imagine; a big adventure park that stimulates
the imagination and satisfies our need to pretend, for a day, that we are in many other
far away or imaginary places.

again". UGH! Miss the real CAVE and the Spee-Lunkers.

Probably the greatest memory I have of the very early visits I made to Six Flags as a
kid with my parents, was the Spelunkers Cave. I can still remember how dissapointed I was
to see it replaced with the totally unimaginative Looney Tunes characters. I would love to
be able to take my kids on the ride, the way it used to be!!!

I grew up with Six Flags and worked there as a caricature artist from '77-81. Then
moved out of state. I came back to Six Flags and was horrified to learn that the
Speelunkers were removed! I am glad that Six Flags was so successful, but why did we have
to lose some of the most charming aspects of it in the process of becoming a corporation?
No LaSalle's, no Skull Island... and the most heartbreaking loss of all...the Speelumkers.

Six Flags has in recent history replaced the old fun rides with those with gift shop
tie-ins. This is trend I have seen in other parks including Disney, Bring back "The

their small merchandising appeal.

As I get older, it seems that human nature wants to hold onto things from the past.
People are born every day with new ideas to change the world. Angus had an idea and he
changed a small part of the world. The speelunker cave was a one of a kind. I'm 42 years
old and have been to sfot almost every year. The cave was a "memory cave" for
me. Memories of my first time to ride, being scared of the elves. My first 'date' at six
flags in jr high. Trying to get up the courage to go on the cave ride to 'make out'. But
the worst memory is arriving at the entrance to the cave and seeing Bugs and Daffy and
having to listen to that Taz sound loop over and over! All gone .The memories are all
gone. give me my memories back. thank you

I have to say, I agree that The Cave should be restored. Looney Tunes characters are
way overcommericalized and all over the park as it is! Like most people, The Cave is one
of the few solid memories I have from my early visits to the park in the 1970's. I
remember all of us kids begging my parents to go there first, despite the protests of my
little brother, who was absolutely terrified of the Spees ;-)

Please bring back the Cave ride. My best memories of Six Flags is from that awesome
ride. Six Flags desperately needs a ride like that. I just got back from the 40th year
celebration and I had a sad feeling because the Cave ride was missing. The people who go
to Six Flags for the first time today have no idea what they're missing. The Cave gave
this park an identity - something you couldn't find any where else. What will it take to
get the top suits from corporate to realize this will bring more people back to the park -
the people want this - please bring back the Cave. Yes, Titan is cool, but the Cave will
stay in your mind forever. Let's bring back the magic. Thank you.

I remember “The Cave” from the late 1960’s before they butchered it up.
Someone wanted to know what the music was. I remember each piece of music and know what
some of it was. The mysterious theme as you enter was the first few seconds of
Debussy’s “Gigues”, then the pipe organ was a recording of a steam
calliope. The scene of a spee-lunker holding crustaceans by chains was accompanied by a
piece called “Taboo”. I don’t know the name of the music the harp quartet
played, but you can hear it in the Imax film, “To The Limit”. Then the twisting
dancers had a daffy arrangement of “Yackety Sax” or something similar. Then
after the “hump” and before the storm, a staccato violin arrangement of
“Firebird Introduction”. I remember one more little tune in the wrecked ship
being played on a concertina (squeeze-box), but I can’t quite remember the name of
it. All the sounds and music mixing together throughout the ride had a mesmerizing effect
that is hard to describe. If this ride were to be restored to it’s original plan,
there would be no tapes. The sound would be running off flash memory cards in the mp3
format.

I can still remember the Spee's even though I was young. That ride was one of the best
rides to ever come across Six Flags Over Texas. It was original, had cool effects and and
was a key characteristic to the park. I can remember riding the Yosemite Sam ride the year
it was put in and asking my parents where the Spee-Lunkers went. My favorite part was the
spinning tube effect and the swinging boulder, even though it was not big on heavy
technical effects, the ride to me blew It's a Small World out of the water (Spee's was on
the fun side not the annoying). Please, please bring back the best, and original Spee's for
generations to come to enjoy, besides Yosimite's popularity has fallen, so might as well
put a classic in its place to rejuvinate that area.

Man! did yall bring back some memories or what! I had spent so many hours in that cave
that I can still hear the music that used to play inside. does anyone else remember
sitting on that little deck between the end of the lift and at the end of that spinning
barrel? I sure recall the squeals of delight as the tub leveled off at the top of the
lift,it seems like that startled just about everyone. Many a preteen got his or her first
kiss riding in the cool recesses of spelunkers cave. We used to make our little brothers
or sisters set in front so they could not watch us behind them. Nowhere else on a hot
summer day could one relax, enjoy the dark, and recouperate from the 110 degree heat like
that cave. Please bring it back as it was I've been thru the loony-tunes version and it

One of the most wonderful things about Six Flags over Texas was it's lack of media
hype. The Speelunker's cave was an an original. No Batman, Superman, Pokemon, Gumby, or
Wonder Woman. What ever happened to originality, anyway? The Spelunker Cave has always
been one of my favorite rides at SFoT. In fact, I haven't bothered to come back since it
disappeared. I can find rides just like the other rides in your park anywhere across
America, so why bother? I hate this homogenation of the themeparks. Each one is just like
the other. Cartoon characters, rides based on movies and superheros, etc. Come on! Be
different. You're in Texas. We're supposed to be different. Bring back the Speelunkers,
Casa Magnetica, the tree slides, and Skull Island with the caves and rafts and slides! So
what if a few people get their knuckles scrapted on the slides? (I did.) Change the names
and themes of the rides to somthing besides comic book and cartoon heros. Do something
original. Original themes, original names. "Titan" is a start, by the way,
unless they come out with a WB movie about the Titans. I love thrill rides and
rollercoasters, by the way, but rides like "LaSalle's Riverboat" fired the
imagination as well as the senses. Let the guests work a bit on the Caddo Canoes, and get
dusty on the stagecoach. Stop being so PC! Thanks for listening. John K. Bowman

get me back to Six Flags for the first time in fifteen years.

Bring back "The Cave Ride"! It was one of my favorite rides while growing up
along with the La Salle's River Boat Ride. It's ashame that with every ride that is
destroyed it is replaced with a rollercoaster. Don't get me wrong, I like rollercoasters
but not just them alone. Me and my wife haven't been to Six Flags in 2 years specifically
because she doesn't like Rollercoasters and all of the rides she has liked have slowly
been being demolitioned. Being back the Six Flags everyone has grown to know and love!

What is this? Our home has been taken from us and our lives destroyed by the hands of
selfish men. Rise up O Spee-lunkers. Prepare yourselves for battle, and we shall take our
beloved cave back. Bugs Bunny is just a myth, but we are real. Be afraid Six Flags, be
very afraid. We come to destroy and conquer. You will soon learn who the real TITANs are.
It is us, your best little friends and now your worst nightmare. And to you, my human
friends, Rejoice! This is a time of celebration, a time of victory. A new era has dawned.
Will you be there for us? When the dust clears and the wounds heal, we will be in our
glorious home, and you will be able to enjoy our friendship once again.

The Warner Brothers' characters and the emphasis on thrill rides have ruined what was
once such a unique and somewhat magical place. Today it is just roller coasters, Bugs
Bunny, and Batman. Restoring at least some of the old THEME park would greatly enhance the
Six Flags experience for all guests. Although the optimum ride to bring back is La Salle's
River Adventure, the cave is a great place to start.

I haven't been to Six Flags in years, but I heard that several of the classic rides are
gone...in particular LaSalle's River Boat Ride and Spelunker's Cave...Disneyland could
never close Pirates of the Carribean or the Haunted Mansion or the Jungle Cruise --even if
they are dated...I don't know why Six Flags would remove their classics...I'm sure parents
want to take their kids on rides they enjoyed as a kid... I know if I had children I would
want to take them on the Cave ride...I'm sure my Dad would plan a family trip with all of
his grown kids and grandchildren if The Cave Ride were still there...and the River Boat
Ride...and Skull Island...and the Sid And Marty Kroft Theatre and Big Bend...and the
Fiesta Train...and so on and so on...

Please return the poor little Spee-Lunkers to there home or maby we could start a home
for wayward Spee-Lunkers. Those little guys represented allot to those of us who worked at
SFOT and we feel that a part of our history has been stolen from us. The cave was never my
ride but I worked there several times pulling doubles trying to make extra money to buy my
first car. Even before I was a SFOT emp. I was a seasons passer and remember making out
with many a girl in the cave. I loved the Black lights and the stobe effects and the
music. removing the Spee-Lunkers was a Great mistake and a very obvious sell out to
corperate Bullies. What has become of the little guys that used to live in the cave? and
are those two still tossing the boulder back and forth? PLEASE BRING THEM BACK.

Taking away the Speelunker cave ride was a big mistake. That was the coolest ride
ever!! The Looney Tunes ride is boring and no one likes it. Six Flags needs a mysterious,
funny, and dark side ride. The old cave ride was perfect for all ages. Six Flags lacks
imagination now. The WB Looney Tunes over kill is killing the park - I will never go back
again. I miss the speelunkers, Skull island and going through the volcana. What was Six
Flags thinking when they took out the best rides? It's insanity!! Please bring back the
Speelunker cave. It's sad that the management lacks creativity and the insight of what the
customers really want. Does Six Flags really listen - we'll soon find out. Bringing back
the Speelunker cave ride is the smart thing to do. The magic of Six Flags is gone - let's
bring it back. Come on Six Flags...let's wake up.

I was a visitor every year to Six-Flags Over Texas. I use to be the returning visitor
you counted on to spend money in the park. Back in 1978-1982, I had a yearly pass for
every year. But as the rides that I grew up on (Spinnaker, The Cave, The Spindletop, The
Big Bend and others) started to disappear,I found myself going back to SFOT less and none
during the years 1985-1998. My family and I are trying to go once a year now. SFOT is too
commercialized now. It is understandable nowdays tho. The WB cartoon cave ride still uses
the same water path as the "Spee-Lunkers Cave Ride", bring it back for your 40th
Anniversary Celebration. I can't even remember the name of the rides they are called
now..for the old ones still in the park,I still them by their orginal name. I would like
to show my family of 4($$$ to spend in the park) a small glimpse of what SFOT use to be
like. I love the new roller coasters, but you can still restore the old Spee-Lunkers cave.
Half of the ride is still there!! Also, would be nice for season (2001) for pictures and
markers for rides that gone. Please improve the footpaths around the park. Very hard to
get around the park now.

The WB characters cave is cute but I have always associated Six Flags with an air of
mystery and originality. No other ride offered such an element any more than the the old
Speelunker Cave. Everyone used to get off excited - even after riding over and over! Few
rides are of that same caliber these days anywhere. My family and I have quit going to Six

The removal of the "Spee-Lunkers" was definitely a wrong move. I have very
distinct memories of The Cave - memories that will last a lifetime. Unfortunately, all I
can do is tell people how "Cool" it was and I can't show them first hand. While

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Bring back the Spelunkers! Don't you see how the removal of
these 'special' creatures have disrupted peoples lives?! I was VERY disappointed when the
park started changing from the original design to Loony-Toons. It was my curiosity and
imagination that was racing when going through the ORIGINAL SFOT that was and IS the back
bone of my memories and the main reason why I went to the park. I do enjoy riding some of
the new rides, but it seems like a silly race to have the tallest and fastest ride around.
BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL RIDES THAT PEOPLE LOVE AND CHERISH SO MUCH! Casa Magnetica,
LaSalle's, Rotoriculous, Skull Island, Crazy Legs, Volcano Ride (the parke does have room
to expand so why not have a section for some of the rides that couldn't fit in their
original places.) Just think (and all it takes is a few brain cells to truly know what I'm
talking about) of the business that would come to THE ORIGINAL SIX FLAGS OVER TEXAS (with
a few new rides, of course). I'm now getting down off the soap box for someone else to get
up and say what's on their mind.

Six Flags has become less and less family friendly. We don't go anymore. It's more for
daredevil teens. Besides the fact that the Speelunker Cave was original until Warner
Brothers took it over and ruined it. Where's the creativity of Bugs Bunny characters
standing around. Big deal! We want Speelunkers!

I haven't been to Six Flags in many years now, but I located this website because my
children are old enough to start enjoying such a wonderfull theme park as Six Flags. The
spelunkers cave was not only an entertaining ride, but it was the "Tunnell of
Love"(so to speak)for many of us former employees as well as for millions of park
visitors. The spelunkers cave is as much a part of the history of Six Flags over Texas as
The Alamo is to the State of Texas. To replace the spelunkers would be like tearing down
the Alamo and building a brick home in it's place. I believe mosy of your ex-operations
foremen (Margie Robinson, Bobby Grubbs, Jacques Demott, John Bement, and all the others)
would agree with me that it should be restored to it's spelunker theme.

I adored the Cave and the Spee-Lunkers (always thought it was spelunkers, though...)
and was heartbroken when it was replaced with the loud, annoying Warner Bros. thing that
is there now! I never plan to ride that again, but would ride The Cave over & over. I
have so many fond memories of it, from early childhood to early adulthood! (And I never
even managed to get kissed on it. ;-) ) My favorite part was the lightning--so eerie,
though of course I also loved the barrel, the cool blast of air at the end, and those
adorable spee-lunkers. If there's any chance of bringing them back, please do!!!
Meanwhile, I'm very curious to know where people have managed to find the originals--I
always wondered what happened to them!

Does anyone remember the Temple located inside the Spelunker's Cave? It had a hidden
door which was accessed by a secret knock. When I was initiated into the Exalted Order of
the Spelunker, I was stripped naked and forced to bow before an altar with a golden
pyramid with an eye peering out from it. I was given a tattoo of the Cabalistic Tree of
Life on my back and then forced to ride a goat down a dark hallway. There was a room at
the end of this hall in which sat a dwarf with a conical hat. He was smoking a bomb-shaped
cigar and feeding pretzels to a monkey. "Welcome to the New World Order!" he
shouted dwarfishly. I was treated very well by the New World Order. But one day they
poured cement into the secret doorway and moved away without notifying me. As a final
insult, all of the Spelunkers were ritually burned by a rival group, the Justified
Ancients of Mu. They then filled the "ride" with Warner Brothers cartoon
characters: Stiffy the Erotic Rat, Yosemite the Hun, Boogers the Skunk and Rickshaw the
Shaolin Fighting Termite Queen. When I tried to find my way back to the place I'd known
before, I was knocked out by some weird gas and I woke up bound tightly to a metal chair
connected to several electrical wires. They tortured me and even cut out part of my brain.
Dear God I hate Six Flags and all that it now stands for! It hasn't been the same since
the Ishmaeli Order of Assassins took over the park. Please bring the spelunkers back.

I always loved the spelunkers best. I remember one trip when I was about 7, they got
our whole family in one boat - Mom, six kids, then Dad. As we were going through the cave,
Dad said,"I feel something wet back here." Turned out that with so many people
in the boat Dad's large frame at the back actually sunk the end of the boat - and Dad's
end! - in the water! Still one of my favorite memories of visiting....

I've worked several double shifts with the Spee-Lunkers during my time as a ride
operator there in 1977 and 1978, and have many fond memories of this ride. This ride holds
a unique place in amusement park history, and deserves to be restored to its former state.
I admit it is important to add new rides and update older ones, but it needs to be done in
such a way that it compliments the attractions that made the park as unique and special as
it is. Several parks in the country in recent years have had great success in restoring
unique pieces from their past, such as Kennywood Park and their Lost Kennywood section.
There are several rides from Six Flags past which I would love to see restored so I could
share them with my family. They could be a great asset to the park. Please restore our
poor, orphaned Spee-Lunkers to their former home, not only to bring back some great
memories to your former employees, but as a gesture to the people and the community who
have supported and enjoyed your park for so many years. Thank You.

The Spee-Lunkers were an integral part of Six Flags. I was very disapointed in 1992 to
find Yosemite Sam's Gold River Adventure in place of the Cave..... Of all the rides, the
original Cave seems to be a favorite among guests and employees alike. I worked inside the
Gold River cave a few times and hearing Tweety and Sylvester repeat the same thing for two
hours at a time just about drove me crazy. I've been told that the original Spee-Lunkers
were made with alot of asbestos so the originals couldn't be reused... but surely Six
Flags can build new ones.

Please, Please bring back the Spee-lunkers. Even before I became an employee, the cave
was one of my favorite places to go on each visit. I loved the anticipation of finding out
what those little (elves?) were up too around the next corner. My favorites were the
pirates I think. Even after I grew up, it was still one of my favorite rides. I was
looking forward to being able to introduce my son to them when we visited. It is sad to
see how much the park has changed from the time I was a child (1965 - 1970)to what it is
today. Even as an employee there were still vestiges of the old park around (GT Cars,
Chapparell(sp) Cars, Mexican Hat.. etc.) but they are fast disappearing and nothing but
metal roller coasters and thrill rides remain (don't misunderstand me, these have their
place). Six Flags seems to have lost the special personality I remember so well. Bringing
back the speelunkers would help bring some of that back.

the Spelunker's absence, the park seems a little lacking somehow. I really miss the magic,

Please return the Speelunkers! They were a favorite, always had to wait in line. Our
children deserve to experience what we loved. Now all Six Flags parks look alike. We miss
our unique Six Flags. Thrill rides give you a few seconds of blurr. The Cave, LaSalle's
Riverboat and Canoes (guest participation!) made you laugh, think and daydream. You took

I grew up going to Six Flags and it was our one outing for the summer. I always looked
forward to the cool, mysterious CAVE ride. It was a fun diversion on a hot afternoon. I
was VERY disappointed the last time I was at Six Flags to see that Looney Toons had taken
over EVERYTHING, including my beloved Cave ride. Looney Toons do not even fit the idea of
a water cave ride. It is not unique and is not the same fun experience that many have

The Spee-Lunkers is an icon of Six Flags. I fully realize that the characters are not a
part of the Warner Bros. Company. But, lets face it; they should be. As a child visiting

safe place to take them. Come on guys -- bring it back!

As a young girl living in Arlington, summertime meant Six Flags and Six Flags meant
Spee-Lunkers!!! Just mentioning the words, Six Flags Over Texas, would conjure an image of
those mysterious little guys and gals. Later, as an employee of the The Cave, I really got
to know those creatures. Dolly, the School Marm, the Boulder throwers, the Fisherman,
Off-Ping Hammer Guy, Lincoln, Washington, the Lobster Wrangler, even the Mop Men. And know
they're all gone. Why? So that we can be live audience to a marketing ploy? No fair!! The
Cave used to be about creativity, mystery and imagination, now it's about selling plush

Remember when the Warner Brothers cartoon characters were wild and anarchic? Well, that
was a long time ago (before you were born, perhaps). Now they're simply lame animated
advertisements without any real humor- shills for everything from sneakers to sodas.
Returning the Speelunkers to the Cave would be a salute to the art of INDIVIDUALS. Yes,
it's a radical idea to imagine that individual artists can make better art than corporate
boardrooms, but it just might be a step in the right direction. The old Cave Ride was
haunting and whimsical. Yosemite Sam's Coal-Chute is sad, dreary, boring and...why bother
going on? I would ask for the return of the FABULOUS RIVERBOAT RIDE, but I can't stand the
idea of it being packed with stupid Warner Bros. animations. Anyway, do the right thing-
pull the Speelunkers out of the attic and bag the no-longer funny (or Looney) Tunes &
throw them into the deepest lake you can find. God help us.

Spee-Lunkers' cave I held hands with my date for the first time. She was thirteen and I
was fifteen. We dated for eight years and we have been married for twelve years. I want it
back!

Six Flags has undergone great changes throughout the years. Most of which has caused
the park to lose it's magical quality. Replacing this ride back to it's original
configuration would put back some of the charm lost to Six Flags. This small gesture would
greatly contribute to your bottom line because local patrons would such as I would return
time and time again to recapture a small sliver of their youth. To return Spee-Lunkers
Cave to it's original format would be of minimal cost as compared to today's megacoaster.
And would require no costly land aquisition. Yet would go along way in attracting your
best customers "local residents" to the park time and time again. This is
probably the most cost effective way to increase your bottomline. I am sure the increased
revenue would completely outweigh the cost of renovation. We former employees would asist
in any way we could. Feel free to contact me if I can be of any help.

Return our Spee-Lunkers to their natural habitat! The entire park has gotten SO
commercialized - we used to know when we were in Spain, Mexico, France, Modern, etc. - but

Charles and Pauline Pafford invited me and my mom, to Six Flags, after my dad died.
Chuck (their son) escorted us throughout the park along with Charles..."The Silver
Fox." The first time we went on the "Cave Ride" was so cool...especially
the mist, at the end. I had never been on an adventure like that before. The lightening,
barrel, music enhanced/spotlighted the Speelunkers. Believe me, I was impressed! After
reading "why the Speelunkers should come back," I understand why. Six Flags used
to be a place where familes gathered and had fun...a respectful atmosphere. Chuck,Pauline
and Charles are now "gone." God bless them. DG

Please bring back the charm of Six Flags! The Spee-Lunkers and their cave was part of
the charm of the park. What has happened to theming? What happened to France? Spain &
Mexico have merged into one. Bring back defined sections to represent each of the
countries for the Six Flags, is that not the name of the park? Is this not the park that
started it all? I remember the charm, the beauty of the park. A place to spend the day
with the family, with attractions for everybody from the youngest kid to the grandparents.
Those days are gone, now the park is nothing more than a Warnerised, pop culture, thrill
ride, amusement(I use the word loosely) park. Please bring Six Flags back to what it was
intended and should be, with the spee-lunkers cave being part of that.

Dear CEO of Premier Parks Inc., After reading the impassioned words of countless Six
Flags Over Texas devotees, I have but one thing to say about the removal of the
Spee-lunkers from their rightful home: Can't you see, you're hurting people (sniff)? Okay,
I have more than one thing to say. I live just minutes away from Six Flags Over Texas and
have visited the park with my daughter once in the past several years. The reason is not
the ever-increasing price of admission, but instead the transformation of an original,
imaginative adventure park into a generic, thrill-ride dominated theme park. Don't get me
wrong, I love Looney Tunes, but leave the characters where they belong - in the cartoons.
Looney Toon Land is fine - the rest is overkill. I'm not totally opposed to change, but I
strongly believe preservation and restoration can co-exist peacefully with renovation and
improvement. Many of the adults that come to the park would like to re-live some of the
adventure that made Six Flags special to them in the first place. There is no middle
ground anymore - nothing in between the major thrill rides and Looney Toon land. We want
the Spee-lunkers back in the cave - nothing less will do! And while your at it, I kind of
miss the villain and the lumberjack from flumes one and two of the log ride. SPEE-LUNKERS
RULE!!!!

I always enjoy Six Flags. I find myself thinking good thoughts... Until I get to what
USED to be "The Cave". Then I start thinking about how my childhood memories
have been squashed in favor of an over-rated cartoon advertisement. I miss the old ride.
The lightning. The barrel. All of it. Just think of the media hype you could produce if
you brought back a treasured historical landmark attraction. Many who have stopped
attending SFoT would return just to ride "The Cave" again. I know I'm right

I feel that a large portion of the magic of "a trip to Six Flags" that I
experienced as a child has been lost since many of the original, classic rides such as The
Cave have been replaced by marketing schemes. While realizing that Six Flags is a
business, I feel that younger generations of children have missed out on the unique
qualities these original rides gave the park. I have always been more than happy to
support Six Flags and while I have seen ticket prices soar over the past years, I have
paid my money for trips on original rides such as the Judge, TX Giant, etc. I am not
anti-warner - I love bug's and the gang, but I feel as a patron who has grown up with the
park, that there is a place for them, and a place for originality. While visiting other
parks, I have found that the non-sponsored original, good old fashioned Amusement Parks
such as Sandy Lake, Kenneywood, etc(parks which are like the Six Flags of old)to be the
most enjoyable. Please restore some of the original rides, The Cave in particular. I feel
that if I am to spend my $ at Six Flags, I should get my $'s worth, not a virtual Warner
cartoon. Respectfully yours, William Rutledge III

It was probably the worst time I ever went to Six Flags when I realized The Cave as I
knew it was gone. To see everything I grew up with sold out to Warner Bros., it was
absolutley sickening. The Speelunkers were the ride that my whole family went on every
year and loved. Really, you sold the rest of the entire park to Warner Bros., couldn't you
have left the only creative part of the park alone? Bring them back and maybe your
attendance would go up. I for one have never been back since Six Flags was Warner-ized.
Why do I need to go to an endless commerical? I can stay home and watch t.v. for that.
With the prices that are being charged today, you would think we would be paying for some
creativity.

I'm writing about spelunkers cave. I was born and raised in oklahoma city,ok and my parents used to take our family to six flags over texas practically every year. Out of all the thrill rides, roller coasters, water rides etc, spelunkers cave was my best and most memorable ride at six flags.
It was so cool inside the cave and the little spelunkers were so cute and
entertaining.I really hate that they replaced it with the looney tunes ride,I was hoping
to one day let my daughter experience the spelunkers cave it was really a neat thing, and
it really made six flags more enjoyable.Any chance of getting it back?

The Speelunkers were commissioned by some of us to explore the caves and find the
rightful home of some very shiny small stuffed thingies - we'll call them c-creepio's .
the fantastic thing about the Speelunkers is the illusion that they truly possibly could

Sometimes progress isn't always the best thing. When I started work at SFOT, we still
had Skull Island, Spindletop, and canoes. Okay, they were C-rides. (We rated them,
remember?) What's left of the old SFOT? Why does everything need to be designed to make
you wet your pants in fear or throw up? Sure, Speelunker is cheesy. That's what made it
great. Same for the LaSalle's Riverboat Ride. The point was knowing the spiel so well that
you could tell when the tour guide said something that wasn't in the script. Seeing the
tree go up by itself after the beaver chewed it in half. Six Flags of the future is great,
but its charm goes beyond what lies in store for the strong of heart and stomach. It's
coming back to the familiar. Maybe that's why I haven't taken my kids there. Too much has
changed. What's left to remember?

had to be either-or with Bugs and Co. Why not have both? Bugs elsewhere, but Speelunkers
back in the cave where they belong.

That ride was very popular not only with the guests but with the employees as well. The
current ride lacks the adventureous effect the original ride had. You can only do so much
with Buggs Bunny.

I always loved the cave ride when I was little and worked there during high school. I
would love to see it returned like used to be. It was my favorite.

Please, please bring the Spelunkers back!! I also miss the Mexican train terribly,
although I may be alone on that one. The charm of Six Flags used to be the unique fantasy
rides. Now the most vivid memories are waiting in long lines for thrill rides and
trademarked corporate characters. Lalalalalala FIESTA!

The Spelunker Cave was such a great ride before it was Warner-ized. It had originality
and charm. Now it is just commercialized junk. The animatronic dragon was my favorite!

There are already too many Looney Toon characters in six flags I think they could give
it a break in the cave. When I go through the cave now I feel like I'm in some sort of
cheesy Warner Brothers commercial. The Spee Lunkers somehow felt more authentic.

The little guys looked pretty bad before they were replaced. What I really miss are the
barrel you went through and the lightening strikes and the cool mist at the end. That was
really nice on hot days!

I'm from Garland and many upon many of fond childhood memories are of that ride. It is
one of the few things in this world that doesn't teach a child corrupt things of this
earth. Instead it is a wonderful world of fantasy without evil.
